New look for event sheet editor?

Hey everyone,

We're thinking about changing the look of the event sheet editor, to a new 'clean' skin. Here's a preview:

Do you like the new skin better? I think it should be an option anyway, but which should be the default? Could anything be changed to make it better? Feel free to draw some mockups if you want to come up with your own design, too. There's no proper 'skinning' engine on the event sheet editor yet, so it'll be difficult to change it significantly from what it already is, so bear that in mind.

I think the borders in the first version actually helped to keep things separated. Everything kinda blends in with everything else in the new version.

Actually I kinda like the original, I will add that its hard to tell sometimes what action is selected.

I agree the new version looks like it would be very hard to actually tell where an event ends and a new one begins. My vote is to stick with the old one...

my professional opinion is that the lines help discerning between events, too. but in case of the comments, they are competing too hard with the text. i would favor if the comments had no outlines:

the outlines for the events/conditions are not that harmful, because there is more room between text and outline; and the framing of the actions by the backdrop works fine, too.

if you were to drop all outlines, i figure you'd have to change the pastel color scheme and improve contrast to properly identify the events:

since this could possibly darken the mood of the event sheet and also impact its readability, i'd rather you do otherwise :)

I agree with all of the above comments.

Something between the current and the proposed would be good as I agree with everyone above who has said that the proposed lacks enough separation between different events.

Perhaps have a blank line after each event if you remove the border to ensure that the start and end of each event is clearly defined.

Yeah I like dkdoom's versions, I'll make it an option anyway so it won't change the default.

Two other ideas i had

i say leave it as it is and put a lighter border on comments.

Needs a big flashing banner so people know precisely where the events end:
