  • So I needed to take a break from stuff for a while. Reasons being interest, cost and some health. I can't blame anyone for lack of interest, but I couldn't justify the cost of the license if I wasn't using it, and the increase for discontinuing seemed like a punishment.

    I took the break, and decided I would try dev with Animate, but it turns out there are a few caveats. The first was a surprise as you can't render html into video, and second was a general lack of Animate related development. All there seems to be is whatever things C3 updates fit into the scope of Animate which, to be honest is not well defined.

    While there is still a lot that can be done with the product I feel that is languishing on the vine, and the I just can't rationalize its cost. For example I thought I might try some light game dev with it, but it turns out I can't even export to the arcade.

    Then another is I can't even upload videos to Insta.

    So with that I guess its exit time.

    Perhaps I might do some stuff with my C2 license while those exports hold out.

  • Sure wish I could do animated vectors on Drawing Canvas.

    Because they are actually captured on video export in Animate.

    1. Pre populate the layout.
    2. Make a loading screen.
    3. Get a better pc.
    4. Don't do that.

    The next stable will include a demo using the flowcharts feature to show users which version they can use for each api. 😜

    Well the question is what plugs, and behaviors are broken because of this, and if there are any remedies.

    From experience I know I can't make a platform like behavior with events. Events are too slow for everything. I know I can't make a Vampire Survivors facsimile with physics. Physics is too slow.

  • Yeah when I was doing dev I would just use touch, and not use mouse.

    You loose a cursor, and the ability to mouse over. Not a real big loss.

  • Its broke, always has been. It was never fully tested as there was not enough interest in it.

    Amazon changed how it works even before C2 was retired, and thus there was no interest in updating it, or adding it to C3.

    What if it's a touch and the mouse cursor just happened to be in the same spot?

    That would mean that the user is dragging while touching, so I guess you could check that its speed is zero or pretty close, and/or mouse is down.

    The number of corner cases is just going to balloon if you insist on working both in at the same time. Plus the logic for UI over the entire screen is vastly different between the two, especially if you want zones where the user can click on both UI, and background.

    Letting the user decide and have events for both may be the best method.
