  • My next game falls under almost every category. Just leave out the sport.

  • I'm not here often, and I don't use Construct often, but I was told there would be a Linux version of Construct as soon as SDL was able to do what DirectX does. (This was months ago.) Considering I have no experience with either SDK, I assume this will never be possible. If I'm wrong, I'm glad I am.

  • Construct itself likes to freeze when I run it. I wait about 2-5 minutes and it works fine, but that's an example of how it works differently on different systems.

I haven't upgraded myself to the unstable releases, however. What version are you using? Transitions always messed up my games in Construct. Instead, I just made my own transitions. For fade-to-black, just have it show a black box over-top everything and, once that box is 100% visible, go to the next level/scene/whatever. I know this just over-complicates things, but it works better. Now, if only full-screen mode had a workaround. Why doesn't full-screen work properly, anyway?

  • Construct *is* for making specific types of games extremely easy to create... or at least prototype. With the addition of global objects (not sure when they were added, but I asked for them a long time ago), I'm getting very excited about what might be made with Construct. You can already make platformers and arcade shooters with little effort. Why not add to that list?

    Here are a couple ideas:

    1. Tile grids. (That's what I'd use most.)

In RPG Maker and Game Maker you can use a tiles sheet or tileset or whatever a large image containing tiles is called. You'd think something like Construct would have a similar feature.

    2. Orbit object behavior.

Easily make objects orbit other objects. This is not an absurd request. It's easily coded in an object-oriented environment, and it would be extremely helpful in the case of arcade shooters.

I know I'm going off topic, but hey, we're starting a discussion here. I'm just rolling with it.

  • So no tiles engine built-in? Damn.

I was just hoping. Best to ask.

I don't like having to align and grid tiles. Rather have a tile grid that holds the tiles for me.

Construct is never going to be my cup-of-tea (neither was Game Maker),

however, I don't think it's good of you to put me down. (I could make a game using it. I just don't.)

If there's a plug-in for a tiles engine or anything to make RPG-ish features easily, I would like to see it, but I'm not interested enough to wade through forums to find it. I'd rather stick with the engines I'm making from the ground up. Ha, ground up, tiles, get it? Yeah.

  • Can you use Construct to make a decent RPG yet? I was wondering if there was some way to make games similar to that of RPG Maker or something of that sort without a lot of workarounds. I haven't kept up-to-date on the progress of Construct, but I like that objects can be used across all scenes now. That's actually a feature I asked for, so thank you, developers.

  • Try Construct 3

Comment: Gamers will love making their own games and apps using the Construct IDE. It looks similar to MMF2, but it's free and open source!

    That was me.

I have a friend who already uses MMF2. I've been trying to get him to try out Construct for a couple months. He says he's waiting for the 1.0 release. Wonder how long that'll be.

  • Old versions and features from old versions should remain free, and compile buttons should remain free, since you can already do it. Anything new could be in "Construct Pro" if you follow me. Seriously, though, I would not have even tried Construct if it cost money.

  • I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet, but you should use a CMS. I use Drupal, so I recommend it over Joomla, but Wordpress might offer a simpler option for your needs. Drupal is a little more complicated and requires a lot of work to look good. Drupal's better for large community sites.

If you wish to keep things simple, I guess you could stick with what you have now, though. The content is more important than the site's appearance.

  • Is Construct even able to handle tiles yet? I mean, there are many MORPG engines for VB and C++, some of which are very nice. Why would we use Construct for such games?

  • Pausing in Flash works the same way. I don't use Construct, because I'm waiting for the 1.0 release, but I do use Flash CS3, and I must say that I know no better way to pause a game than use a Boolean variable called "gamePaused" and a bunch of if statements. If someone knows a different approach, please, share your knowledge. As of right now, I just remove/disable event listeners when the game is paused and add/enable them again when the game is unpaused, but there are still some problems to overcome.

  • Is there a way to make use of tilemaps yet?

Seriously, that was the one feature Game Maker had that made it appealing. RPG Maker was obviously the easiest program to use tilemaps, though, so I'd take note of RPG Maker if you plan to add such a feature.

Basically, what a tilemap is is a large image of tiles. Some people call them tilesets. Anyway, you can use tilemaps to build levels for platform-jumping games and traditional RPGs. Beyond that, tiles don't seem to help, but who knows, someone could find a use for 'em!

Last I checked (last year), Construct didn't have a tilemap feature, and I don't think it had a snap-to-other-objects feature, either, so building a tile-based stage was probably a little difficult. I do remember you could create backgrounds with a repeated tile, but how is that useful for anything other than a single-tile ground?
