  • I don't use Construct any more, but I still download the new versions. I have only one reason: I like to archive loads of programs into CDs and DVDs and share them with friends and family. Some of them would probably love Construct. I haven't shown it to them yet.

Anyway, keep up the good work, and I'll be looking out for a SDL revision.

  • Skybox doesn't seem like it would be a skybox. Does the background move? I might try it out later if it does. Seriously, though, very nice demo selection.

  • A good point but you must realize that most graphical resources aren't all that great and are meant only for RPGs, like the RPG Maker RTP. Also, the RTP was meant to be RPG Maker only, but people just used the same graphics for Game Maker games, and it became a very bad practice to use RTP graphics, because every game had the same characters in it and the same style to it.

This graphics pack was supposed to be diverse, featuring many different artists, supplying graphics for a variety of game types.

It seems to be a lost cause, though.

  • If I was a Construct user, I would hate having to open a cap file to get a few graphics for another cap file. I would rather just import the images... or am I missing something?

There aren't many graphic resources that give developers enough to make a decent-looking game, and the helpful resources cost money, so the point in packaged graphics is shot.

I may abandon the project all together, because nobody wants to "support" everything. I get the same reaction from Game Maker people. They don't want non-GM games to use their graphics. It's absurd. I really don't know how this has any logic in it.

Well, the project is put on the sidelines for a while at least.

  • It's a text-based game, I believe... similar to those gang war games people used to put in their signatures.

  • SuperV, I could essentially set up a file-sharing area for us, an upload script, and make sure everything is categorized. The way it would work is you would log into the site (my site, ha) and go to the upload page. Then, you'd simply upload your files, and it would upload them to your user directory. This is how Geocities and all those other free webhosts work, too.

Further onto the topic of Construct-only graphics:

Jeswen, I said before that I was supporting all forms of game development, and some people can't even play Construct games, so why not support actual programmers? If I was making a game, purely in Python, but couldn't draw if my life depended on it, you wouldn't help by giving me graphics? Just because I don't use Construct?

I'm moving away from Windows, and Construct is DirectX-based, so I've abandoned it. I want my games to be playable in Ubuntu and all those other Linux distributions, along with Windows.

Construct is a great app. I'm not bashing it!

  • Just a bit of an inspiring webpage: http://www.fantasyjam.net/ggr

I don't have anything other than text at the moment.

If I could get some resources collected, I would get our first package uploaded.

Also, in a short while, that site (FantasyJam) will have a complete forum system, so we could theoretically keep in contact through the website. I just need to get the PM and Reply features ready.

  • Just to clarify, this graphics pack would be useful for more than just Construct users, and those trees look great. Any chance of outline-less versions for anyone using sprites outside of that style?

I will mock up a website in a couple days and include those trees as a start. What would be a good title for the graphics pack? I'm thinking we could separate the packs into an audio pack and a visuals pack.

  • Aw, finally, Plasma is in there, and I decided I wasn't going to use Construct any more. Wish me luck.

  • What would take a while?

I'm trying to get other artists to chip into a graphics resource. I will contribute some character sprites and some other small things. We should provide GUI parts, possibly some emote bubbles, and some trees and buildings. Some tiles for RPGs would probably be a good idea, as well.

If any artists are interested, I would love to see some samples or receive whatever will be contributed. This will be useful for all game engines; not just Construct. This graphics pack could become useful in the Game Maker community and the RPG Maker community.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I posted the idea for a Construct RTP for graphics and sounds a while back, and I think I'll hold up my end of the bargain, or just share any graphics I can spare. I really want your thoughts on an old RPG Maker XP edit I made for the good ol' VBGore users: http://www.syboard.net/mmorpg/fjarmor.png

It isn't all that original. I'm just a fan of The Legend of Dragoon.

I made a new character art style with the red armor, as well: http://www.syboard.net/mmorpg/fjpreview.gif

This one is what I was working with as the character style in my Sims style game.

If anyone wants to team up to create a Construct Graphics Pack or just a compilation of royalty-free graphics (optionally, sounds, as well) for all freeware games, please, post a reply. If you like the idea but can't help, you're welcome to show your support for the topic by saying so. I'll be setting up a website for the compilation in a week or two if enough people are interested.

  • I'm told Blender is way behind the other 3D suites, like Max and Lightwave. Is this true? Well, I have started working on my first Blender model, a self replica (body, hair, clothing, etc.): CLICK!

Also, I recently colored my Red XIII line art: http://www.sheezyart.com/view/1873307/

I quit messing with Construct, because I want my games to be played in Linux as well as Mac and Windows. I have a little experience with Python, because I made some scripts for XBMC on my Xbox. I'm thinking I will make my 2D games in Python, optionally with PyGame, and my 3D work will be in Blender's game engine.
