  • K, some UX ideas:

    1. First thing should happen, user opens the app then gets asked to provide Construct 2 location - this should be forced and checked each time, since without this the app wouldn't work correctly. If the app can detect the location, better.

    2. Then... there might be conflicts with existing plugins. How would you check if the user has an old plugin version? This should be very important to ensure that the user always get the latest version.

    2.a. If the user has the plugin installed AND it's the latest version, disable Download button (or provide a link to the folder since .c2addons need you to drag and drop it into C2 - terrible idea but what we going to do about it...

    3. And I think that's it. Nothing else should be needed

    Here's a very, very, very quick mockup of the main UI (note this is mockup, not real UI. Don't mind the colors, also). I'm torn between a ComboBox or simple buttons to select either Behavior, Effect or Plugin, but will do for now.

    Words between [ ] should be replaced by an icon. ("Forum link" should have the "Forum link" text, though, same for "Homepage" (or Site link, call it whomever you want =P)

    I forgot to include a scroll bar for the plugin lists, that the black square is the live preview, and if you include the update checker, there should be a button to check for updates of the individual plugin IF the user has the plugin installed.

  • The jerking might be an issue related to Chrome browser. We're all waiting for a fix.

  • Also... what do you guys think of that name? "Journey Galactia" ? Going to purchase a domain, but I just want to be sure it doesn't sound lame...

    It's awesome. Go for it, but do a bit of research of trademarks before going 100% forward. Still, it sounds right.

    Closest sounding thing to it is Battlestar Galactica and it's pretty far away.

  • Somebody, I agree with kamizoto on the duration statement. It shouldn't be uber hard to add another extra parameter where we can input a time measure - a simple "screenshake every X seconds" parameter.

    I'm no programmer so my logic sucks, but if you add that 3rd parameter, I can get rid of the Function "object".

  • Nothing can prevent anyone from using a "C2 store". Rex already did one, there's another one in the works with live preview...

    But yes, this should be done. Currently having to browse forums (!) to download plugins is archaic. We need a tool to browse, click a button, download, done. Even restarting Construct is already annoying.

    Honestly, I don't care if Ashley or Tom need to check for bugs, it shouldn't even be their jobs.

    We are the costumers. We should do whatever we can do to make OUR projects easier.

  • Sorry if this is wrong here - is there any kind of minifier that DOESN'T use Java? If so, can it be integrated into C2?

    I never install Java on my system, but I want to minify scripts on release. As a last resource, I'd do it manually when the game is finished, but I'd rather test it before.

  • Economic simulators/RPG are hard to do on any engine. It's completely doable on Construct 2, but honestly, I wouldn't recommend it.

    You're better off using a "more free" framework... Unity is OK but you need to struggle a bit with 2D (not a mess, just small workarounds). If you know about coding, I'd either grab Unity, Haxe Flixel or something free that can export to anything.

    Actually, now that you mentioned it, it's doable on Ren'Py. You can set any number of variables and checks, and customize the UI to be more like an economic sim, and not a dating sim. Check games like Loren The Amazon Princess (I think), they have quite strong RPG/Economic Sim elements. Just replace that anime things with actually useful images for your game.

    Mind that Life Quest 2 has tons of "game feel/juicy" settings. I think that isn't doable on Ren'Py. If you want to have that kind of professional quality, research if the engine you're going to use allows easy integration with "tweening" (look it up). Here with construct 2 we have EasyTween. Still, I wouldn't recommend C2 for that. Ren'Py is easier, but it will feel worse.

    This is a must. Currently, plugins addons and things like that on C2 are a complete and total mess.

    We absolutely need this tool. I know a lot about UX and UI design, I can give you a big hand at making this tool useful for everyone Ize - PM if you need help with this.

    Then, translate that knowledge into Construct 2. It's doable, but it's extremely hard.

  • Problem Description

    This issue happens only with Bars that have clickable icons - Tilemap and Layers. When the user narrows the Bar, the icons disappear. Images provided:

    Steps to Reproduce Bug

    • Open Construct 2 and start a new project
    • Make Layers and Tilemap Bars visible
    • Narrow them enough to make their icons not visible.

    Observed Result

    Icons are not visible, so it's impossible for the user to click them.

    Expected Result

    Either icons get wrapped or an horizontal scroll bar appears to navigate. I did a quick mockup:
