  • Why don't you put this on the wiki like kayin suggested? Where others can add to it and it will ultimately be more useful to more folk.

  • Awesome!!

  • Just tick the "Destroy on startup" attribute on any objects you don't want hanging around at startup. You will still be able to create other instances of them no problem.

It might seem ccluttered having things hanging around in the layout like that, but they have to exist somewhere. Perhaps in C2 there can be an "Object library" or something that you can store objects in and just pull them out as needed, instead of sticking everything in the layout (I am feature requesting this )

Cluttering the layout box means objects sitting there inside the white part, when they can just as easily sit outside it as there is NO distinction between white layout box and gray layout void beyond the use of kill outside layout commands (you can confirm that with the devs, I checked). Cluttering is the correct term used in development for anything within a player area that isn't required at that point in time (such as storage, as many games, even recent ones, use storage rather than load when needed), in the early days, space was at a premium so clutter was kept in small area's the player couldn't access (often seen in games such as Doom, unconnected black boxes containing a couple of enemies, would also result in enemy noises being heard at strange times). In layouts case they can be kept outside in the void as space is unlimited (without getting into the 32bit precision issue the further out you go from zero point, because it's too early and I'm still on my first coffee).

  • Yes to both.

The layout itself is just an easy way to visualize things inside a box so to speak, and handy for removing unwanted stuff that go outside of it (if you choose to) but otherwise it's no different to area's beyond its boundaries, and unless you tell it to kill them if they go outside, you can use the space to store things you need, without them cluttering up the layout box itself.

  • Well done, nice work!

  • > but they seem to stay in my outbox instead of being sent I dont know what happened there.

    >

This same thing is happening to me. I can't PM anyone. It just stays in the outbox, but isn't marked "sent".

It stays that way until it's been read by the other party. So if it remains in your outbox, it's because they've not read it. Which may be to do with the fact that the PM counter at the top will reset to 0 the second you refresh or change the page after it displays how many PM's you have. So many might not even know they have them unless they have email reminders set.

  • i still feel the need to reply to say I downloaded it, even though I'm talking to you in chat right now about the version thing with it.

  • Looking great Kaos!

  • Nice one!

  • Awesome work guys!

Yes, it appears to be the very same bug I posted which people are having trouble with.

    > I know it's kind of annoying but the engine has always worked this way - the real bug was that 0.99.7 let you get away with it - but hopefully this is one of the last pre-1.0 pains.

    >

Actually I'd still like to "get away with it" as you put it. I can't really see what is gained in basically removing this unintended feature. Also, while it may be true that in some cases there is an easy workaround, in more complicated cases it can be a real pain in the ass and somewhat takes away from the fine experience which working with Construct usually is.

I understand that the devs considered adding it in for good, but due to design didn't do it after all. So maybe it's pointless complaining about it again here, but I felt I had to add to this topic.

Well, this issue is bugging me in a big way, since most of my more accomplished stuff is broken now in post 99.7 versions.

You could always just stick with the older version it works on, until you've completed your game. This issue is precisely why most games/apps don't change their tool sets midway through. Just stick with the old one, finish your game, then upgrade a fresh.

  • Aw Cool! you can do that? OK, now you will have to explain how... Is it an effect? Actually i wanted to add something like that to the right so you can place a Flablet on an examination table that is "up close" and experiment/examine the species. That may take a little more studying on my part before I can achieve it though.

You could have them spawn circular grayscale textures from just behind them as they move, with a lens or magnify shader on them, and increase the size slightly before fading out. If you add a background under them, it should give a neat water like appearance.

  • Haha, that's great! I love it

You could have added a distort/lens like effect as they swam around, kinda like in Spore. But that's just for show of course.

  • Use PowerISO or similar to setup a virtual drive. Should work fine like that too.

  • Can someone test the canvas resizing, still doesn't work for me, simple as on layout start resize to whatever size and it just dissapears for me, same as last build.

    Download cap

seems fine here, if that's how you meant by resizing? (use mouse wheel up/down to resize it)
