  • "you're not just looking at check boxes, that's just some off the top of my head."

    <img src="smileys/smiley36.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> You obviously know nothing about mmf

I'd have to say he's right though. Even if using Click products for a long time means you'll be used to it, a newcomer will always prefer Construct's way of doing things. I also find it easier to see where I went wrong in Construct as well.

  • There is a beginners guide book in development, but I don't know when exactly it will be released (probably around December/January).

The next best thing is to go on the Scirra chatroom (click Chat! up top) and ask someone for instruction there.

  • Looks pretty cool, but the site didn't let me download it =/ Can you upload it with DropBox or just another host?

  • Yup, just set a custom collision mask in the Physics behaviour properties and then edit the mask. You can draw an outline of your shape then.

For spheres, just choose the collision mask of "Elipse"

  • I've used most Click products in the past, and never touched them again after finding Construct.

Construct gets new plugins and effects every once in a while that add some features MMF has (eg: online thanks to SciDave's Network plugin), but the built-in ones are still great compared to what a vanilla installation of MMF provides.

I guess you can say Construct took influence from MMF, and then improved on it. The only problem is when you stumble on a game-breaking bug, but most of them can be avoided with caution now.

  • Can't test them, I haven't got the SpriteFont plugin at the moment sorry. As for the jittering, that sounds like it can be fixed by deactivating the bounce behaviour after the coin hits the ground with a speed less than 2 (or try other values until it works how you'd like).

  • Heh, very different. Reminds me of a Sam and Max/comedy point 'n' click game at a military base or something like that. This one seems finished though, short but loopable.

  • Wow, these are all great songs. I could see them going in an RTS game really well. Some of it feels very Frank Klepacki =D

  • Hold your horses! That video is quite old, or only slightly improved from the one I saw over a year ago. There is a lot of hyperbole around this engine, mainly due to the way the narrators pitch it.

    I'm hugely sceptical about it.

I remember them saying the demonstration in the first video was run on a regular laptop of the time. So probably a 2-core (not 12-core) machine. I believe this is possible, as Intel were working towards the same thing as well. They went for the increased core number though.

Still, I believe it more now that they've returned with new content from being "dead" for a year, and are being funded by the government.

  • I haven't been able to connect to steel storm's website and see what type of game it is. Guess their server suffered from sudden glory thanks to/because of the bundle.

Same, I had to go to Steam to check it out. Glad I did though, can't wait to play it now.

  • You do that, DM613.

Anyway, Ashley put this up, does this do what you want?

  • Well, I've had a quick look and it's only the "positions sensors (see sub events)" event that causes the problem, not the whole group. I'll keep looking to see what the problem is within that loop.

  • Sadly not, unless you move the image point where the bullets spawn to outside of the sprite.

If you do not use an image point to fire the bullets, add one in and make sure it is outside of the player/sprite area so it doesn't collide on spawn.

  • Welcome Dicon, hope you like Construct =D Be sure to ask if you need any help!
