  • I was wondering if SCIRRA has any available educational Books or Learning DVD's related to Construtor Classic? Obviously not in constructor 2 because its still beta!

  • Unlike blender Construct is ridiculously easy to pick up , so it'd be absolutely pointless to make DVDs / Books , especially for 30 dollars.

  • This has been discussed previously and nothing came of it. Now that CC is maintained be a few dedicated forum users only, there is little need and time to create manuals or books. The emphasis is - rightly - on C2 now.

Besides, there are more than enough tutorials in this list , fantastically maintained by JamesX, to give everyone a good grounding in CC.

  • maybe "construct for dummies" ? :)

I don't think a Construct book or DVD would be pointless at all since the goal would be to teach someone a new skill in a fundamental way that they wouldn't have gotten otherwise. Since people tend to learn and understand in different ways and at different paces, even Construct would benefit from these types of resources, and certainly other programs of its type have had them. I'd also like to point out that this style of event-based game development is not for everyone, and even the most experienced and/or talented programmers versed in other programming methods may and do find these types of programs frustrating at times. So difficulty or ease of use really is a matter of personal comfortability and expectation.

Aside from the HobbyPress book on Construct which I haven't read (and can't vouch for whether the book is good or bad), So far there haven't been any other worthwhile companies of any professional stature pushing towards a good, deep, Construct resource, but I'm sure someone will step up in the future.

  • ...but I'm sure someone will step up in the future.Although I agree that it would be helpful to have some book, it is complicated, as soon as it comes to details.

Construct never was a finished product nor is. There are many plugins that come with Construct, although they have issues. And I don't mean smaller bugs, but missing or wrong functionality. Just take the binary object as an example.

A book would need to ignore those plugins, but the purpose of such a book would be to have a complete guide/help.

  • I think a book/DvD's will help some users

  • There is a beginners guide book in development, but I don't know when exactly it will be released (probably around December/January).

The next best thing is to go on the Scirra chatroom (click Chat! up top) and ask someone for instruction there.

  • lol have you checked out the chat room no one always is there

  • Not in the chat beta room, but there are a few users on IRC (chat!).

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I'll just leave this here.

  • nice thank you for that link, I think I'm going to buy it so I will tell you if it's any good, thanks

This is very true. I was telling some people about the difficulty of expressing the details in a book in regards to doing certain things in Construct, and how some things aren't functional or properly functional with it being a beta. I don't think they were listening to me as they weren't very courteous, but it's inevitable that they'll come to see it for themselves.

  • Their should be documentation about the effects, atleast.

  • I think a book would be great for Construct. I'd actually considered making one in the past. The way I would have sold them was to schools and emphasized the Python and C++ programming aspects as a good intro into programming while being a way to make learning more fun. You learn Python and C++ quickly and at the same time make cool games. There is a lot that a book could teach that isn't included on the forums, but at the same time there is a lot on the forums that covers what Construct does.

I decided I didn't have the time for such a big commitment, but definitely welcome anybody that writes a book.
