It's very authentic, with just a couple of exceptions. The original doesn't have reverse thrust, and I believe there were UFO's to shoot for bonus points. Other than that, very cool.

One thing I did notice, there's a text box thing that pops up on the scoreboard so I can't see my own name when I get the high score (which I've done twice now )

Oh, and level 4 is pretty ridiculous, what with so many asteroids flying at your face right from the start. The difficulty ramps up a bit too fast. But like I said, overall it's quite nice.

  • All the files are still there, it just looks like WHFF has reorganized their directory structure. So what used to be this:

    is now this:

I've updated the links. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • I can't play this :/

From what I can see the graphics are pretty nice for the most part. But the screen is way too small and my PC doesn't do 320x200 at fullscreen. And since it's so small, and everything is moving so fast, it's pretty much just an exercise in futility. I got to the cave and just gave up.

And also, since it's so small, I can't tell what the player is. And there's a lot of contrast issues with the text and the background which makes it hard to read. Also, issues with the bullets in the cave. I couldn't even tell I was shooting sometimes.

And I noticed you said you had sound effects, but I don't hear any sound at all.

  • I'm pretty sure what you want is to scale your sprites, which you can do by setting the height/width. Here's a sample: http://willhostforfood.com/files4/632756/perspMover.cap (use arrows to move)

Of course, if you want to get really fancy, you could do something like this:

  • That looks really cool

  • I didn't know who either of those people were so I had to GIS them... and I guess I'd have to say that Swanepoel chick, whoever she is.

  • I hear no music... did you forget to include the sound files?

    Nice mouse movement though

  • If anyone has ideas how to keep the robot's other hand on the barrel when the barrel follows the pipper, I'm open to suggestions!

My suggestion: Don't make the other arm part of the bones animation. Instead, fix the hand to an image point on the gun, have the forearm set it's angle to match the front forearm, attach the upper arm to an image point on the elbow, and point the upper arm towards an image point on the shoulder.

Since they're always behind the player, and covered by the gun and the body for the most part, you won't be able to really see if the parts don't line up perfectly.

Bonus points: Draw the fingers holding the gun barrel directly on the gun sprite itself.

Also, I'm wondering why the robot needs to lift his gun up anyway...? That might be handy if it didn't have mouse aim (and could only shoot left/right) and needed to lift the gun to shoot over obstacles while crouching or something, but since there is mouse aim it's not all that necessary and just looks a little awkward.

  • I've tried for a while now, and I just can't get used to the way the new hotspot centering works in the image editor. For every-day image editing purposes, it's a little bothersome. It would be handy for scrubbing through animations, sure... but mostly I just want the image I'm working on to stay in one spot.

Could we possibly get a checkbox for the hotspot tool that allows us to "Center on hotspot" if checked? So that when it's checked, it behaves the way it does now, but if unchecked it behaves the old way. Bonus points if the box remembers if it's checked or not

And on a semi-related note, if you use the numpad to move an image point, it also moves the hotspot, which means you have to go back and fix the hotpot again.

  • Well, presumably you can just make a folder called "Layer 1," then Ctrl-click the layer to select all the objects, and stick them in the folder...?

Though maybe a separate "Sort by layer" would be handy.

Then again, sort by create time, sort by size, sort by birthday, sort by favorite Beatle, sort by whatever would all probably be handy at one time or another.

  • How will the object tree work? Will there be an additional menu item to "Create new folder" or some such? Also, I suppose "Delete folder" and "Empty contents" (from folder, and dump them in the root) would be handy to have. And perhaps "Expand/collapse all"

Don't know if I'm getting ahead of myself here, though.

  • This looks awesome

Now I just need to get one of those bluetooth things for my computer...

  • Every time you post something I always say "it's awesome, I love it." Well I'm getting sick of saying "it's awesome, I love it" all the time. One of these days, you're going to make something crappy... and when that day comes I'll be there to savor every tear.

Just kidding, it's awesome, I love it

  • So set it with an event.
