  • Luck is a far smaller factor for successful game making, than for something like writing a best selling book.

In game making, if you can produce a decent game, people will take notice, regardless of who you are. Yes, there's a small glass ceiling, but your limitations for breaking it are down to your resources (including talents) in making the decent game.

Compare this to writing. When was the last time you heard of a truly 'average' person making it in fiction? It doesn't happen. Unless you're already somebody, or have links to a group which will piggyback you, you won't even have permission to enter the room with a glass ceiling, much less break it.

  • That's what's amazing. An old system with XP doesn't run so much worse than a new system with Win7/8 on most things. Just shows you how much we need a different OS.

(edit: by different OS, I meant different to Microsoft. Imagine how fast modern computers would be without MS's lead weight).

  • Billion dollar industry which has bankruptcies strewn all over the landscape.

This industry is a money pit.

  • Why not just buy a standard quality laptop, and buy a new one in a few years if needed. This isn't the 1990s. Fact is, computers are only going to get significantly better if there's a new type of technology released, in which case whatever you buy would become obsolete. So why not save your money.

  • You need instructions with your game.

  • Don't forget, the engine needs to be capable to exporting to where you want the game. It's no use creating something you can't export to Kong, if that's where you wish to have your game.

  • Try Construct 3

  • > For me, I guess the bottom line is that bad music is probably better than no music (as long as there is a readily available mute button).

    >

No. Sometimes bad music is the worst option. Even if the mute button is found, it's still a registered negative.

But some amateur 'musicians' do have an inflated ego of the amateur trade. In many cases, if you did a simple beginner's keyboard melody, that's plenty (and often better than the garbage amateur games have). Just a few simple bars is often enough.

If not, then there's plenty of places to get free sound tracks for your work.

You shouldn't need to go the paid musician route, unless you're a professional (proven) commercially profitable concern, with A grade products.

  • Honestly, unless you're getting a new computer, upgrading from XP to a newer Windows will be a nightmare; your computer won't be able to handle it, despite what their "minimum specs" say. Minimum specs is simply saying it won't burst into flames on you.

  • it contains dunning-kruger effect. I wouldn't reply there.

The dunning-kruger effect is dodgy for the following reason.

Suppose you're in the bottom 10% in any given task. You can't underestimate your performance now, can you?

More importantly, if you're in the top 10%, you're not able to overestimate your performance.

As such, it's impossible for the lowest performers to do anything but overestimate, and the reverse for the highest performers. And as such, it's real dodgy reasoning.

  • What do you mean/intend by "Idle" RPG ?

Look on Kong for 'idle' examples. Basically, its a game to wear out your mouse not achieving much. Personally, I really can't understand how such games can rate well..., but then again, I never got floppy bird either.

and within 15 min you can sell you product to google play for million dollar !!!

If this was truth, you would have done it yourself. Ok, maybe a million Zimbabwe dollars (25c).

  • > Just why should people throw out perfectly working phones every year or so, just to make you happy?

    >

But that is what many people do (according to my experience) - I can't understand it, but after 1-2 years they boast about their brandnew phone

    A non-small proportion certainly.

I actually might have one of the oldest mobile phones still in regular use. Its one great feature is..., wait for it..., a flash-light with all the light of a single Christmas light-bulb. Not bad as a throwing weapon though.

  • Why demand a flashlight on your can-opener if the can-opener opens cans without it?

  • if I were doing games for 20 years now, I would never use any free/paid engine because I probably could write one myself. In about 30 minutes. On a laptop, blindfolded, riding a horse backwards and using only pinky finger on my left hand.

I'd get that pink finger checked by a doctor if I was you.
