    Actually, they can beat Unity3d.

    Game Industry is a trillion dollar Industry (bigger than movies), and the sudden rise of small indie companies producing big profit producing games. This offers a great win win for both parties.

    Unity3d is super cool. But So is Cry Engine and Unreal. They are tools. Each can make a blockbuster game, each does make blockbuster games each year.

    Profit sharing of 5%. That is a great "Offer".

    A game can take a considerable amount of time. Ureal understand this, they are offering the developer free development time, and share in the risk (if you make money, they make money. If you don't make money, they don't make money) Pretty cool deal.

    Depends on the edition.

    Unity 5 Personal Edition is free to use and to deploy to all platforms WITH the exception that it will add a Unity Splash screen to the beginning of the game. A small price to pay given the power of Unity.

    Unity 5 Professional Edition is the one you have to pay for, though I would argue that the subscription model at 75/month is more than reasonable and is comparable to other subscription based platforms like Adobe Creative, etc.

    With their intention to get into WebGL it may make it a good option for web based 3d in particular.

    They must have a huge development team - it shows!

  • Yeh, I remember the day when you used to buy the software (on a disc in a box) and you didn't have to pay another penny until you wanted to upgrade. This subs model is a way for the dev to fund future development - imagine the reaction your game would get if you started charging a subscription to play the game? Grab, grab, grab.

    Well done to Epic / Unreal for bucking the trend!

    Yeah the most important stuff is that you can now export everywhere without additional fees.

    And anyway a little splash screen is nothing. Plus it's Unity, it's classy.

    But when it comes to speed of development C2 is better. The real question is do we really need UE4 or Unity. UE4 is only handy with 3D, 2d has no point there. And Unity has a very good 2D engine but is much slower in terms of development. But it has however a better optimization possibilites and lots of sprite tools (like rendering polygons).

    For modularity and code support Unity is the way to go. But for small projects and even bigs but where there is no sustainability and support (dlc and stuff) involved C2 does the job. You learn algorythm and you can't learn to code but it does the job.
