  • I went some websites like forums and facebook pages, there are developers were discussing about CocoonJS isn't an option to export iOS and Android by HMTL5 game, they basically tell CocoonJS is a broken tool due to lack of sound support and dynamic memory support.

Ludei tells us do not use a lot of images and sound files, it shouldn't be any problem.

Overall, you cannot make robust games with CocoonJS.

  • yet there is no better alternative in case of Android (PhoneGap sucks)

and I'm still waiting for reply from ludei about not visible banners after last changes...

  • It's really starting to get to me. Though I have some games published with CocoonJS, I was just hoping to do so much more. We are so spoiled with constant updates from Construct 2, it's frustrating when we get a new update from Ludei after 2-3 months and it just seems to be minor fixes.

With Unity 4.3 (coming soon) having a native built in 2d tool set, I will probably finish up my current projects in C2 and then make the swap the Unity. I love C2 and I think it's the best game creator out there. I am just finding myself wanting to do games for mobile first.

I Really like a lot of things about Unity... Price is not one of them. To be able to publish to all of their mobile platforms would cost close to $5000.00 USD (iOS Pro + $1,500,Android Pro + $1,500, BlackBerry 10 Pro + $1,500, Unity Pro + $1,500)

I am surprised someone has not taken up where Ludo is lacking, and make a new exporter plugin. I know I would be willing to play up to $500 for an iOS/Android exporter plugin.

Maybe Scirra can produce this? It might bring in some more revenue from existing customers.

This might be the reason for people to jump, and buy the Business Edition.

Buy the Business Licence, get the Scirra Android/iOS exporter plugin for FREE! (A $500 UDS value!)

Seems to be such an important part of C2. I am surprised they already have not done something like this. The demand is definitely there.

Didn't they make mobile publishing free recently? As far as I know, you don't need the pro versions for developing and publishing games. I am no unity expert though, so correct me if I am wrong :)

On the topic: Yeah, having solid mobile exporters would be a great thing. It's probably the single biggest thing that makes me question C2's long term future.

in Unity you have to pay those $$$ when you already get 100,000$ income from your apps (but there are no event sheets, nice stuff and so on)

anyway I guess that now SCIRRA 80% money gets from yearly education licences... so we might not be the real C2 target:

    100 independent devs x 79 pounds = 7900 pounds *one time*

    100 schools x 159.9 pounds = 15,990 pounds *yearly*

    :)

  • vee41 , I got that from the sales page here:

  • Yeah, you can publish on just about every platform now with the free version. There are features missing of course, plus there is the unity splash screen. Which we have on Ludei anyway, even as a premium member.

I truly believe C2 is a great stepping stone in starting in game development. It has taught me so much and I don't regret for a second ever buying a business license. I just think Unity might be the next step for me as I want to go mobile.

  • 100 independent devs x 79 pounds = 7900 pounds *one time*

100 schools x 159.9 pounds = 15,990 pounds *yearly*I always thought it's a bit unfair to advertise C2 with all those exporting options, when those options totally depend on third party. There's no chance to get help, because all you hear is "Ask Ludei" etc. Creating a game is useless if you can't properly export them (properly = as you intended the game to behave), so such an important option shouldn't lie in the hands of third parties.

However, the money table from you is unfair, too. Ashley has proven enough over the last years, how much he cares for all customers. Almost no question unanswered, regular updates, considering suggestions, the list goes on. I don't think there's any favour to a certain group of customers.

That pricing is for pro. You can see the licensing here unity3d.com/unity/licenses

Now I don't want this to turn into a C2 versus unity debate. C2 is by far the best HTML5 game editor out there in my opinion. I love Scirra and I know someday it will be easier to get games on mobile than it is now. I just don't want to wait. Not Scirra's fault at all.

Here is quote from the unity FAQ:

Can we sell games and make money with the free version of Unity?

Yes you can create and sell a game with the free version of Unity, without paying royalties or any revenue share. However, the free version of Unity may not be licensed by a commercial entity with annual gross revenues (based on fiscal year) in excess of US$100,000, or by an educational, non-profit or government entity with an annual budget of over US$100,000.

Please also be aware that the feature set of the free version is not intended for the production of professional games and interactive content. Lastly, games made with our Pro trial licenses may not be distributed nor used for commercial purposes.

And here is another one from the download page:

The free version of Unity for Windows. Includes publishing support for iOS, Android, Windows Store, Windows Phone, BlackBerry, desktop and Web, and a 30 day trial of Unity Pro (with Pro publishing for iOS, Android, Windows Store, Windows Phone and BlackBerry).

And like said before, Unity has solid track record of high quality mobile games. With the new 2D tools becoming available soon it is something I do intent to check out. Nothing beats C2 in approachability though :)

  • I have no other problems with CocoonJS, but the same audio issue that just keeps getting worse as they try to fix it. With their latest version my music starts twice but now gladly only plays one track at a time. Ludei seems to be supporting facebook integration, but I can't find any functionality for this in C2 CocoonJS plugin. Now that I have a big publisher behind me I might need to recreate my project in Unity. C# is easy to write and kind of resembles what we do with C2.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

I love Construct 2 but recently:

    • I can't even show sh*tty banners on my new CocoonJS compilations
    • there are no other ad monetization methods (and even if there would be - is there any guarantee that they would work with CocoonJS?)

    It makes me terrible unhappy

  • You can rent unity pro and all extensions at $75/month a piece.

This is great if you are turning a profit, and can write off the expense against profit each month.

If you pull in $5000 a month via sales/advertising/whatever and have a expense of $375 then it doesn't look too bad.

  • We really sympathise with everyone's frustrations!

Over the last few months, we've been waiting and hoping that CocoonJS would improve, but still no sign of this yet!

Version 1.4 was supposed to be the turning point, but everything just seemed to get worse after this update!

As the only viable option for mobile exports (at the moment), we are left waiting around for Ludei updates and fixes! But (despite a much larger staff base than C2, and recent funding deal for 1.5 million) these are often very slow in coming!

We love making games, and don't wish to sound mercenary! But (like everyone else) we have bills to pay, and we need to make a regular income! However, due to the problems mentioned above, we feel like we're trapped in a vicious circle and can't move forward!

We're really hoping the situation changes for the better soon!
