  • Hi all,

    Blender has a feature that lets us snapshot the work area, which is great for tutorials and for forum help requests.

    I was thinking that maybe this would be a cool C2 feature too!

    I have noticed a lot of people posting the same types of images on the forums.I was thinking that it might be a nice C2 feature to "snapshot selected", which would do a screen shot of all objects currently selected in the event editor or the layout editor.

    I think it would promote people to make more descriptive posts when asking for help. It would also help out with tutorial creation.

    There are much more important things to address first, I am sure. I just wanted to add this to the suggestion box before I forget it.

  • I have never really found a good service. They are either over priced, with great service, or they are cheap, with no service.

    1to1 hosting is about the worst there is.

    Next is webgator.

    I am currently using FatCow for my clients, but they are really really anal about the way you use their site.

    They do stupid things like insist that a password has a cap, a number and 2 punctuation symbols. YOu also have to keep it between 6-12 characters.

    Their entire site is like this. For americans they insist on you entering your phone number as they do in asia and europe.

    If you are able to deal with a bunch of really backwards things like this, then they are really reasonable priced, and the servers are pretty fast.

    If you want your own server, where you can install your own OS, and run gamed from I suggest dmehosting.com/openvz-linux-vps.php .

    I have a minecraft,Running with Rifels, and an Ace of Spades server.

    They are around $5 a month, but like fatcow there is no tech support to speak of.

    the DMEW servers have Ubuntu-Server ISO's that can install from a script, so all the website stuff is done for you by default. Things like Apachee are auto installed and somewhat configured for you.

  • Thank you labithiotis,

    I want to use a black and white texture to determine where 2 textures are mapped.

    I want to do this at runtime, I am making a dynamic texture template like the ones in Genetica and AutoCad. The result will be a terrain texture tileset

    The texture I can produce is like this :

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1660874/texture%20dump/pngbump.png" border="0" />

    The result of mixing the 2 textures would be something like this:

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1660874/texture%20dump/awesome.png" border="0" />

    I appreciate this very much <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

  • BluePhaze, i am doing some tests with the bitwise method to autotile, and once we know how to draw the tiles(i am using 16 sprites to cover all positions) and their positions to use the bitwise method, you can achieve great and very organic results.

    And by the way i use Drawplus, a very underated vector software

    I am thinking in making a tutorial if someone is interested

    bitwise autotile

    I have been an Inkscape user for quite some time now. I would love to try something new.

    Looks reasonably priced and a free version too 8)

    Thanks for the information.

  • Ok, I found this little gem of a tutorial here:

    scirra.com/tutorials/322/making-an-interactive-treasure-map/page-3

    He is using textures with an alpha channel. Great tutorial though, I learned a lot.

    If no one has any ideas maybe I will email Scirra tomorrow morning, I hate to bug them. They seem really busy making us cool new features 8).

  • Nice one Firebelly, I like the shadow under the player. Gives a nice effect.

    I like how you are using the blues and greens , really nice combo. Has sort of a cold, but alive look to it.

    Not too much on my development, just added a tread brush so you can paint tire tracks, and tank treads.

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1660874/Example2.jpg" border="0" />

    I just need to get a better way of mixing the textures and I will have a working copy up for everyone to use.

  • Hi, I am trying to mix 2 textures together with gray scale mix map.

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/1660874/help.png" border="0" />

    I have tried the various blend modes, and some of the effect modes, but I can not seem to find a simple mix solution.

    The blend mode tutorial in the C2 examples folder did not help. They use textures that are already alpha masked.

    Thanks in advance for any help.

  • I gave up and went back to the non-steam version.

    SOmething you might try is finding your C2 folder in the steam commons folder, and putting the licence text file in there, rather than in the "My Documents " folder.

  • When I upload my project to my server everything shows up as expected.

    When I try to run the application in preview mode locally I cant get the sprites to load.

    I went through my .htaccess file, and completely disabled hotlink protection, and yet I am still getting nothing when I try to test locally.

    Is there some special URI address I can use to access my files when I am running the webpage locally?

    If not does anyone know of a decent FTP Daemon to automatically upload my work? This might turn into a development nightmare :(.

    TIA.

  • Any reason why you wouldn't want to use "onload"?

    Just me being a newbie.Thank you very much for the information :) I was racking my brain trying to think of how I could do this.

    +1 Karma for you

  • Try Construct 3

    Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

    <script type="text/javascript">

    function popup(){

    cuteLittleWindow = window.open("http://localhost:50000/", "littleWindow", "location=no,width=1024,height=1024");

    }

    </script>

    </Head>

    <body>

    <a href="javascript:popup('red.html')">Here is a popup window.</a>

    </body>

    Copy and paste that into a text editor, and save it.

    Run a game from C2 by pressing F5.

    Open up a browser, and drag the file onto the browser to run it.

    That is the only way I have found so far. I have no idea how to make it dynamically open up a window like that without user clicking on a link first.

    I was going to try had get 2 instances of C2 to communicate, but I have not had the time yet. If you get it working please post how you did it, to save us some time :)

    I want to use it as a floating tool pallet for my texture editor I am making.

  • Wow, they still do not support SVG. I guess the enormous leap from GIF to PNG took away all of their technology points for the next 3 decades.

    They still do not even support their own hardware, on their own web browser , on their own operating system. How can anyone take the commercials about it being a gaming platform seriously?

    Thanks for the Heads up BluePhaze :), Downloading now. I will sure be glad when web developers can start using bleeding edge technology. Microsoft has held web developers back for years now.

    I gave up on web developing in the 1990's when I found out that I had to make a special webpage, just for IE users, because they can not render PNG files correctly. This was true up until just a couple of years ago.

    The biggest reason technology like HTML5 lags is because the -ssholes will not adopt anything that they can not patent and have full control over. Only recently have they been giving it any attention.

    HTML 5 could be the crushing blow to Adobe flash, but MS's obsessive lameness is giving Flash a better foothold than ever before.

    I have a feeling Gaben is going to be our next "Bill Gates" with the new steambox. Once people see that they do not have to put up with Microsoft's abuse to play games, and to use all of their hardware properly, there will be no reason to use windows. Absolutely NONE.

    I weep until the day our new supreme overlord and savior will arrive. Gaben please come rescue us!
