Probably because they've provided their services for free and never charged.

Actually it's because Android Nougat does not require the webview engine anymore.

It kinda sucks for us because the projects that run on webview will face some issues on devices running latest version of Android Nougat.

Subscriptions to get updates, new plugins and features on a regular basis is worth paying for BUT holding your projects hostage so they can not be edited if you don't pay a subscription ransom is unethical in my opinion.

For the love of god explain to me how editing a project after payment expiration would serve you knowing that you will not get to export it?

It is the reason why it is called a subscription model, it's not like Scirra just invented this payment system, it has been all over the internet for years...

It just does not make any sense to me at all ...

Most of us will make use of C3 in the first year since people will get it for half the price or for free. So in the 365 days, it will be pretty dumb not to release at least 4 or 5 games to the stores.

And after that, you will do the maths and see if C3 is worth 99$/year.

If you don't like it, then you move on to another engine. Simple as that.

C2's pay once system has it benefits for users but it is not good for a company.

Personnally if I was running game engine software company I will surely opt for the subscription model because:

    • It will prevent my software from being distributed online for free.
    • It will provide me a steady income.

Sick and tired of these threads and posts being brought over again and again and again and again and again ....

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • amariscal The controller plugin does not have ads functions, only the airconsole plugin of Psychokiller1888 has those functions. You should test with the pong.capx examples and see if they display on screen.

  • I'd say go for it, you won't find anything that comes close to C2 in the market.

    Much like what NN81 said.

  • I can't help without exporting it myself.

Make sure that you are actually using the appropriate cpu version of your apk, check what processor your device is using (x86 or arm) and install the appropriate one.

Note for users: Next update will take a while to be ready for release, sorry for the long period because I was busy with other projects. Next update which will be If I remember correctly 0.7, will feature a new version: FPS creator.

  • That error does not come from my plugin, it is related to the runtime of your C2 project. Are you using Cordova plugins in your game ?

I can not get to work this plugin in a cocoonio, maybe need some settings? Sorry for my English.

PM me the capx and I'll generate the APK files for you.

  • Studio

Yes it does, runs at 60fps on high end devices.

No it won't, C2 wouldn't have survived all these years without the 3rd party plugins.

(Even though the SDK itself is so limited)

  • cjbruce Congrats ! Did you put ads on it ? Or is it a hero exclusive game ?

    > I just wanted to express my thanks to Ashley, Tom, and the rest of the Scirra team for producing and supporting Construct 1 and 2 over the years. I have used their products for all sorts of interactive projects and a bunch of games that I have created and released.

Could you share a detailed opinion of your understanding on why they did this, as I do not comprehend this at all.

In fact, from a business standpoint, it makes more sense to rebrand Construct 2 editor, maybe make it more stable, and slap a 3 on it. Than doing this with an HTML5 browser based editor for a subscription price.

He said it was his last post, so he cannot reply to yours otherwise he will break his promise.

Anyways, I wish you the best of luck, and make sure to not miss the C3 beta which will come out in April. Take care.

  • In need of a plug-in or a behavior for your project ? Feel free to contact me.

There are two types of works I can deliver:

    • Exclusives : Gives you the ownership of the addon, which means that you are free to sell it, distribute it etc...
    • Not: Gives you first access to the addon before its release to the store.

PM me so we can manage an inquiry for your request.

If you still do not know what library you need, search this website

  • That is a great idea, actually it would be for the best of us users and for scirra to have a clone of the steam greenlight system as an application which will hold games or demos made with C2, and which supports ads monetization. Much better option than having a website.

The greenlight clone system will let people decide whether a game is worth being uploaded to the library or not.

Or instead, force users to pay a registration fee.

  • You gotta throw some cash at Facebook in order to get noticed, I did it a while ago and it worked.

Actually their publicity system is the best I have ever seen. You basically choose how much you wanna spend on pub and for how many days, and then let Facebook do the work for you.
