• Off the top of my head, you for all of the new parts of the map that get generated (assuming each one is a big sprite), you could create image points on it.

Then use the OnCreate condition to then populate those areas with trees and stuff.

You wouldn't have to create an image point per tree, you could just do a for loop and randomly dot them around each image point.

  • That's good to hear! When Battleship Islands was on top free for a few months, it made a little bit of money to cover costs (excl my labour) but it definitely wasn't enough to make a living by a long shot.

I may have to revisit WP8

Do you reckon between WP8 and Win8 stores it's possible to make a living with MM and your other upcoming games?

  • Cool thanks for the link. Wow and the capx is only a few lines for doing something so complicated! Rojo made another capx a while back which may help which was like the legend of zelda type games - would that help?

I was going to think about a continuously scrolling type game, rather than a "flick to the next" screen sort of game. I have an idea on how to do it, but was hoping someone would have made it already

To answer your other question about making it a finite island, you could always just keep track of your distance from your origin, so that when you get to the maximum distance, the screen will no longer scroll and no more map would be generated.

  • That sounds interesting, I've been thinking about designing something like this myself, but if R0j0 has already done one it will probably be awesome. Do you have a link to it? I'll have a look into it as well.

  • This is looking really good performance wise even on my low memory phone (HTC8S)!

How are you finding sales currently in comparison to the Win 8 version?

  • breackzin - check them out they were awesome games but quite old now:

Apart from resource allocation, you could beam in shock troops to attack components of the enemy's ships, send out attack shuttles and all sorts of cool things!

Actually there is also another neat indie game called Faster Than Light which revolves all around resource and crew allocation.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • breackzin - funnily enough that was in my original design to have resource management. I really, really, really wanted to be able to allocate power to shields in different directions much like Starfleet Command or Bridge Commander (old but cool Star Trek games), but thought I'd limit the scope otherwise I'd never finish

Definitely something I want to put in for phase 2 though!

  • breackzin - that's a cool idea. A mini health from the biggest motherships would actually work well - thanks!

  • I like the atmosphere you've created even with the simple graphics. It's pretty fun to play with, but I kind of got a bit lost as to what to do after picking up lots of stuff.

  • Thanks for the encouragement Blacksmith!

  • Thanks Kurz! I like the idea of a SC2 interface, esp if we get different types of ships in (something I have in mind if we get enough downloads).

You can actually play this on a tablet - I've been using my surface pro as a test device (it has crappy performance hence the low FX option )

  • Many thanks Peralta, makotto for your excellent feedback!

The graphics come from a Kickstarter project called Indie Games Builder from Roenicia games as well as some stuff I pinched from the Space Shooter demo that comes with C2 (including the main photon torpedo, which I'll look for an alternative for)

  • Hi Guys,

Here is a game my friend Jeff and I have been working on called Battlespace Commander for the latest Win8 app competition.

Basically it's an old school endless top down shooting game much in the same style as asteroids and time-pilot. The difference is that you are in command of a huge battlecruiser, and your powerups increase the number & types of turrets on your ship. The idea was to capture the massive ship to ship combat from star trek or battlestar galactica.

The game can be controlled via touch or mouse. Left click or touch will control the direction in which the ship travels. Right click, or a 2-finger touch will activate a temporary boost.

Anyway, we would love to get feedback from you guys about the pros and cons of the game!

  • Fantastic work! Thanks for your contributions Dreamer, I will definitely use your music and credit you :)

Could I please have a link to Guardians? I made a start to a game while listening to it. I plan to make some kind of chilled out endless flyer type game with it. Here's the preliminary game stub (a bit rough around the edges):

  • indiegamedesign - I've only just come across this thread, but thanks for the initiative. I see now that the opportunity is closed, but I'd be interested in looking into it if you ever want another C2 dev creating templates. I'm also interested to know how successful it becomes in future.

p.s. Rex is one of the best and most prolific plugin creators on this forum. I currently use about 15-20 of his plugins so he would be an excellent template provider.

Animate & dhondon - I understand how you guys feel, but something like this could provide a real boost to C2. If you take a look at Unity, their Asset store is an amazing little economy right there. Sure it costs money (not much) for the assets, but it saves people a ton of time looking for them or creating them from scratch (not possible in my case - I can't draw as well as artists).

I've spent countless hours looking for good/appropriate sprites over the last year, but could never find any that were of decent quality and/or reasonable prices.

I for one will be following this site, not just as a potential contributor, but as a consumer.
