EpicRaid's Forum Posts

  • I definitely agree about the forums being better in terms of help. Though the search function in the forums could definitely be improved. Often I use Google to search the C3 forums. 😅

Just like you mentioned, the forums are an archive, and everything in Discord is basically temporary which seems like dang shame to me, because so much knowledge and help is being shared and given there.

Honestly I'm not much of a fan of Discord because the whole program looks like a circus with all the busyness, icons, flashing things, messages, different channels sounds etc. so it can be confusing.

Here, the forums are divided into topic with messages. Clear and simple. Discord is basically a chat program and when it's really busy on a channel, your message or question won't get any visibility.

Enough of my Discord rant though.

I suppose Reddit is also like a forum, except with the huge drawback that new replies in topics don't bump the topic. It will be buried forever, slowly but surely, regardless of the amount of replies it's getting.

So you basically get 'one chance' and you need to be lucky that someone will find your topic. I also don't like the new layout, I don't understand why they put so much white space around everything.

    Forums ftw.

  • Ah OK, well I don't know how hard it is to make it. But I can imagine people buy templates because they don't know how to start making an RTS.

So it would be extra difficult for a beginner to create something I described. It seems to me though, that being able to click on the enemy where your troops will stop at firing distance and attack, is a crucial element to have in the template.

I don't think it even needs to be an 'attack anything on the way' move, C&C1 and RA1 didn't have it either if I'm not mistaken!

Well, it's up to you of course, I'm just making a suggestion. :)

  • I noticed the forums aren't as popular as they used to be. I could be wrong but which channels are more popular these days to discuss anything C3? I know there's Reddit which doesn't seem to be any more popular than the forums. Or is everyone on Discord these days?

It could be that people are scattered over different channels of course. Sometimes I think C3 is becoming less popular, but I could be wrong.

  • I think what would make it complete is to add an attack move or cursor when you hover over the enemy. Have them stop when they see the enemy and start attacking from there.

Because right now you need to send them to a position first, only when they stop they start attacking which would put your the attacking troops at an disadvantage (if the hit points would be equal for both sides).

I do notice the last troop in the selection attacks from a proper distance, but the rest doesn't.

    Or did I miss something?

  • I always wanted to create my own version of GTA1. I'm not sure what I will do with the gameplay yet, but I'm working on the basics first.

For now you can enter and drive cars and there's traffic.

Apologies for the choppy framerate maybe I had too many programs open when recording.

This is the complete city map; the video only shows a portion of the map because it's the only part that has properly textured and shaped buildings, objects etc.

  • Hi, maybe a silly question or I can't find it.

Currently subscribed to C3, but when I go to construct.net and click 'Launch C3' it doesn't actually launch it.

Instead it takes me to; construct.net/en/make-games/free-trial

From there I can only click to the trial/guided tour or open one of the templates below. I just want to launch C3 directly as a subscriber and open my projects from e.g. the 'recent files' tab.

Is this an error or purposely designed this way? It's kinda annoying.

  • Ah cool! Did they send you an email out of the blue or did you contact them first?

  • 3D dynamic lights and shadows.

That looks friggin' amazing and is actually precisely what I was looking for a short time ago. Very impressive work!

What are you intentions with this, will it be an add-on?

I think a lot of us would really like to use it!

  • I was just wondering though, aren't you worried about copyright? Bethesda owns the rights to all the Fallout series. Including Fallout 2. They could shut you down if your project becomes popular saying it 'damages' their franchise (read: sales).

I hope this won't happen of course but I was wondering if you had thought about it. I'm often curious how creators manage these things because it's definitely in the grey area, bordering on red.

I don't mean to discourage you but just wondering if it crossed your mind as it would be a shame if you got shut down especially towards completing the project.

  • Yeah unfortunately I don't know anything about javascript either. Guess I need to go for the more 'simplistic' approach.

    Thanks anyways.

And well.. if anyone reading this has anything close to a bit more 'realistic' 3D lighting please tell us!

  • Hi,

Well I dug up some 'examples' I came across.

    Here's a video of a game that's made in C2 (2016);

    youtu.be/k8O91sTZZLI

Or do you think the Flaslight effect is just a sprite on a parallax layer?

    Here's an interesting one;

    construct.net/en/free-online-games/fps-3d-campo-prueba-31805/play

All kinds of lighting there. So surely it can be done right?

Though I can't find the used plugins (are they called addons now?) anywhere.

  • Thanks for your reply!

Looking at the example it affects only the walls as you mentioned. What I had in my mind was more of a 'realistic' approach rather than lighting up an exact square wall piece. If you know what I mean.. say the ceiling holds a small rectangle as a light source. It would then cast light diagonally from the ceiling to the walls and floor.

I'm sure it should be possible right?

  • Currently I'm trying to get '3D' audio or I believe it's called positional audio to work.

Now I'm aware that there are some settings for the audio object in the project bar. However I find it really hard to get these settings right because even though I set the maximum distance to say 500 pixels, when I'm 1000 pixels away I still hear the loop of the sound. Am I doing something wrong here? I don't understand the audio models either, the manual just describes jibberish formulas.

Another thing that I don't understand is how to set different settings for each audio object. Surely it should be possible to have different roll off, maximum distance etc. settings for each audio object? For instance using 'Play at object'.

    Anyone? :)

  • This looks great. Are you the developer?

The project is surely creating a lot of traction too.

I love(d) Fallout 1 and 2! Though I'm wondering if the developer is aware of the sheer scale of the project. All those towns, the humongous dialogue options, storyline, but this looks more to become a shooter.

Even if it is going that way it will need a brand new 'storyline' or at least objectives of some sort otherwise it will just be an empty survival shooter.

Nevertheless I hope he will continue the project. Curious to see how it will develop from there.

  • I'd like my 3D environments (rooms/hallways etc) to have somewhat realistic lighting. But I don't know how to create them. I've seen people make 'flashlight' type of lighting even, and that was in C2 so it should definitely be possibly and easier in C3 I think? I could only find the standard lighting object (shadow caster).

    Thanks!
