  • Class act MJ, I'm sure Ashley would love it. Do let us know if it's official, I'll like to plug this on my site. Really masterful presentation you've done here, E3 quality.

Question, what is the name of the first game shown? One of the more stunning representations I've seen from this engine. I'm stoked to be a part of this community even more now.

    Cheers!

  • Well, I think it's fantastic Awesome job MJ!

  • Yeah it's mindblowing shame that I forgot when the deadline was

  • it looks and feels extremely professional, and i like it a lot, but i cant help feel theres not enough of everyones stuff, and the stuff that is shown is just sorta clipped in at the end on that screen cylinder thing.

whats shown is really nice and i'm not against the fact that you used a lot of your own stuff due to lack of other material, but the idea of this project was to showcase everyones stuff, and right now i'm not really feeling that it accomplished this.

I can say for sure you did great work, and i know you busted ass on this, but having it longer with more of the communities' games shown is something that in at least my opinion would allow it the title "the official construct show-reel" something that it would 100% be deserving of with more clips.

  • If you gave permission it would be awesome to use bits of it for a intro scene to a Construct game.

Of course, I don't mind. But unfortunately video in Construct doesn't work correctly at this moment (if in full screen). The solution is here.

    wow, mary jane

    you are insanely talented.

    how old are you again?

Thanks! But once again I would like to draw your attention that this is work of several people! And it's not age. Importantly that it's a collective work. I 'm very grateful to Alex (my colleague) for help in creating video. Also want to thank Denis who write a wonderful goa-trance soundtrack specially for the showreel. I could not realise my idea without their help.

Question, what is the name of the first game shown? One of the more stunning representations I've seen from this engine. I'm stoked to be a part of this community even more now.

This is a very old project, that I made when learned the program. Here is a topic. Then, because of a lack of time, I had to give this project to another developer. As far as I know, the project is developing, but slowly. And there is still long to the nearest demo version.

In the meantime, you can watch a rough version of the first level on (this video was used when creating the showreel).

I would personally LOVE to have the video in MPEG format.

Here is a video in Mpeg2 format:

Download: (HDV 720-25p MPEG-2) in ZIP archive 400 mb

Here is a video in Mpeg4 format:

Download: (1280x720 MPEG-4) in ZIP archive 77 mb

Download: (854x480 MPEG-4) in ZIP archive 54 mb

    Download: (512x288 MPEG-4) in ZIP archive 28mb

If you can't open Mpeg4 ? download the codec: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

but having it longer with more of the communities' games shown is something that in at least my opinion would allow it the title "the official construct show-reel" something that it would 100% be deserving of with more clips.

I don't claim the title "the official construct show-reel", if the other person will make the video more complete, I only support this. Simply I've already written that there are many good games on this forum, but their authors had not shown any activity. I specifically wrote this post where explained that I'm leaving in June for the whole summer and will make the video until the end of May. But besides newt no one else didn't posted examples.

Sadly it looks like there's more activity on Youtube than here.

Anyway, the vid is quite nice, and looks very professional. Kudos for that, and I'm sure it will bring lots of interest. That's the main Idea.

  • I think the one who makes the video should use much more demos than in this version... Why do people have to post their demos on that thread? Can't someone just pick people's caps from the forums and put them in the video without asking permission from the authors? There are many cool demos and games that should be on the video, but some old and inactive users or just people who are not interested in this don't care about posting their games...

For example this game should have been on the demo:

    Kolumbo: http://www.scirra.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3151

I think it's still the best game made with Construct.

Btw, why there isn't any thread that would contain all games made with Construct? Also some thread that would contain cool examples of making different things and maybe answers to most FAQs as caps.

MJ's show-reel is looking great and I'm sure it will bring more users if it's spread in the web, but I agree with Quazi that the final version should contain more demos and also some not-so-shiny tech demos and games.

  • SacceuS,

Common sense and basic courtesy would require MJ to have proper permission from authors before including their work on the showreel. Since she's done this voluntarily, it's a little unfair to expect her to go to the trouble of trawling the forums, downloading caps, capturing videos, as well as everything else she has done here. It's down to the authors of projects to make the effort to get involved in things like this.

mary Jane - inspired by your efforts, I've started a little project in the form of a Construct promo blog. If there's no objections, I'd like to make your showreel the first proper post. You can read about it here:

    Let me know.

  • Also some thread that would contain cool examples of making different things and maybe answers to most FAQs as caps.

That's a fantastic idea. You could start this type of thread off, post a few examples, and get users to post their .caps! I know many would find it helpful.

I think the one who makes the video should use much more demos than in this version... Why do people have to post their demos on that thread?

Just like GMG said, people need to ask permission before using someone else's work. MJ asked everyone to post their examples and .caps and for the most part nobody did! There are a bunch of demos I would have liked to have seen (like the Blue demo where you draw clouds in the sky), but nobody posted. Be thankful because I doubt we would ever have a promo video if MJ (and team) hadn't done such awesome work.

I think Quazi does have a valid point in that he did post in the thread yet only a few seconds of time were giving to the many examples he posted. It seems like most of his work was left off the video which is unfortunate. Same for the other examples posted in that thread. While I would have liked to have see more screen time given to the ones that were posted in the thread this is after all MJ's teams work and they get some flexibility when designing this.

  • Ok finally posted this up on my site... Hopefully I can help spread the good word

    Yes, of course!

And everyone who want to take this video for sites or blogs can use it without asking permission!

You can also download the showreel in the best quality (better than on YouTube) and share it on other video hostings (e.g. on Vimeo).

  • Really great stuff MJ!!!
