Mary Jane's Forum Posts

  • If there's no objections, I'd like to make your showreel the first proper post. You can read about it here:

    Let me know.

    Yes, of course!

And everyone who want to take this video for sites or blogs can use it without asking permission!

You can also download the showreel in the best quality (better than on YouTube) and share it on other video hostings (e.g. on Vimeo).

  • If you gave permission it would be awesome to use bits of it for a intro scene to a Construct game.

Of course, I don't mind. But unfortunately video in Construct doesn't work correctly at this moment (if in full screen). The solution is here.

    wow, mary jane

    you are insanely talented.

    how old are you again?

Thanks! But once again I would like to draw your attention that this is work of several people! And it's not age. Importantly that it's a collective work. I 'm very grateful to Alex (my colleague) for help in creating video. Also want to thank Denis who write a wonderful goa-trance soundtrack specially for the showreel. I could not realise my idea without their help.

Question, what is the name of the first game shown? One of the more stunning representations I've seen from this engine. I'm stoked to be a part of this community even more now.

This is a very old project, that I made when learned the program. Here is a topic. Then, because of a lack of time, I had to give this project to another developer. As far as I know, the project is developing, but slowly. And there is still long to the nearest demo version.

In the meantime, you can watch a rough version of the first level on (this video was used when creating the showreel).

I would personally LOVE to have the video in MPEG format.

Here is a video in Mpeg2 format:

Download: (HDV 720-25p MPEG-2) in ZIP archive 400 mb

Here is a video in Mpeg4 format:

Download: (1280x720 MPEG-4) in ZIP archive 77 mb

Download: (854x480 MPEG-4) in ZIP archive 54 mb

    Download: (512x288 MPEG-4) in ZIP archive 28mb

If you can't open Mpeg4 ? download the codec: http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

but having it longer with more of the communities' games shown is something that in at least my opinion would allow it the title "the official construct show-reel" something that it would 100% be deserving of with more clips.

I don't claim the title "the official construct show-reel", if the other person will make the video more complete, I only support this. Simply I've already written that there are many good games on this forum, but their authors had not shown any activity. I specifically wrote this post where explained that I'm leaving in June for the whole summer and will make the video until the end of May. But besides newt no one else didn't posted examples.

  • Hi!

Not long ago I had an idea to make a small intro Scirra Construct and insert it in the beginning of games to promote the program. At first I wanted to use the video file, but Construct doesn't display it correctly in full screen and video has a large size. Then I decided to make the intro on Construct engine in .cap file, but faced with another problem copying/pasting layouts between projects doesn't work properly. So the intro must be as simple as possible that everyone can quickly create it without much effort and writing long codes.

Previous version that I posted here, has a complex structure and it was a rough version.

I present to you the new version which you can can easily create in a few clicks and use it in your games.

    Download: promo_cap.zip (2,4 mb)

    Construct v99.62

    Download: promo_demo.exe (4,7 mb)

P.S. This example is made for the games with resolution of 1024x768, but you can easily remake it for any other resolution simply resizing sprites and changing the project properties.

  • Thank you very much! I'm very excited that you liked our work.

You should add into the description the scirra website URL and so on.

well...actually, is this the final version??, or somebody will make other versions of it??

I'm waiting for a reply from Ashley, I need to know whether he liked the video. If not - I delete it from YouTube and in Jule another person will make the showreel. If Ashley like the video - I'll write a description and add the Scirra site url. Also if need I can post video in MPEG format for download.

    Hi!

On this forum there are many great and interesting games that could be shown in the showreel to promote Construct. But alas the authors of these works had not shown any activity and not submited their game in the Showreel Submission thread..

So the showreel was made mostly from my games and my friends' games. I also want to thank Quazi and Newt for the material.

Here is our version of the Scirra Construct showreel: link to

All games shown in the video are made exceptionally in Scirra Construct.

Authors: 3D graphics and Design by Mary & Alex . Video Editing by Alex. Music and Sound Design by Denis Orlov.

Please, write your comments and what you think!

  • Hi!

Does anyone else have examples for the Construct showreel?

Or may be someone is still making it?

The fact is that I'm leaving in June for the summer and will not be able to develop the video, so I want to make a demo version of the showreel until the end of May. If you currently have good examples of the program features - post them here. I will choose the best ones and insert them in the video.

May be you won't like my version of the showreel , then in Jule another person will develop it.

  • Hi.

It doesn't matter if graphics for the video made in construct or not! I think in the showreel should be only games made in Construct, but not a logo or graphic design. Our task is to make a presentation which will delight and enchant the viewer and motivate him to try the program.

Graphic design in the video is one of the most important things, and if this requires the use of additional software packages - there is nothing wrong with that, on the contrary it will give more professional and high quality look.

It's great that many people want to participate in creating the showreel, offer their version of the logo, style and graphics ... This is certainly good, but in this case we need to determine in advance who will make a video and the graphic design that none of us would not spent time and energy wasted.

The fact is that with the beginning of this topic together with my colleagues at work we quietly began making the video and possibly soon I'll post a small demo that shows main points of my idea on how should look Construct showreel.

    Here're some screenshots:

So I want determine in advance who specifically will make the video, that our work would not wasted.

Telli and Mary Jane those both look awesome I hope I can use either one's in the beginning of my game?

I made this promo that people can use it in the beginning of their games and thus promote the program. The problem is it's still impossible to move layout between different projects. So you need to create all the new, or you can begin to make your game in the same file (just create a new layout). I could make a video file, but AVI Object still doesn't work properly in Construct.

Later I'll create a topic and post there a cap file of the logo so that people could download and put it in their games.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Working on my submission, but we need to look what is out there and make this demo better.

    Here is one for MMF

MMF video is very simple. I'm sure we'll make this better.

  • Have you tried the latest build? I did slightly change the ball bounce algorithm in that, and I've improved it again for the next build - it actually seems much more reliable in the next build, so watch out for that and give it a try.

No, I have not tried 99.84, because I had read that you forgot to include David's fixes and other changes, so I decided to wait updated build with all fixes and more stable.

  • I tried to experiment with the Ball behavior and got the same problem as Mary Jane... then I tried downloading Mort's example but it makes Construct crash at startup (abnormal program termination, runtime error).

I very much hope that this bug will be fixed in a later version of the program.

  • This guy also has some good stuff, and a similar license (credit given)

    Wow! Thank you!

  • What do you think about Jamendo? I visited their site and tried to understand their tricky Creative Commons license, but failed. Has anyone been there? Do you know can we take their music for noncommercial use?

  • I would like to talk about music . What music will we use in the video? What genre? May be you know site where we could find and download music for noncommercial use (licensed under Creative Commons Attribution or Attribution Non-Commercial, but not Share-Alike)?

If we don't find anything suitable, I can try to write music.

  • But definitely use your cog intro for the start of the video, because that would fit perfectly!

Do you think we need to use the intro at the start?

I had a idea: video begins with that we run the program and begin to make a game. It's quickly created (within 5-10 sec) and we are starting to play it. This moment shows how easy is to make games with Construct. Then after the first game we see a demonstration of other games, and at the end we show the viewer what it's a program (run the cog intro). Also we can insert words on a black screen between the clips, for example: "Create your world with Construct" , etc.

    What do you think?

  • Though I honestly think there wont be an issue for users to view it on youtube, since a 720p video on there will have a number of lower versions to watch, and nobody should have any trouble viewing it in the lowest setting if they have a slow connection (depending on their settings, it may pick the smallest resolution for them, or highest if they can watch better).

and this one explains what I was saying before, how youtube will add black bars to 4:3

Okay, we'll make in 720p. What background will be in 4:3 games? Or there is no background, only black bars?
