  • One of my future mini projects is to figure out how to get the doors to randomly house one of the items when the level loads so you're guaranteed to play a different version of the game (given permutation limits, of course).

    While I'm sure my idea is way far from being the best and most optimal one, but the way I'd do it would be to assign each object a global variable in the first layout(usually the menu screen. ObjectBottle=var 1, ObjectPowerup3=2....ObjectHorse=100. Then in the actual game I'd have an event, whenever the player opens a door pick a random variable between 1 and 100 and spawn the object that corresponds to that variable.

    But like I said I'm a newb, I'm sure more experienced users can give you better and more complex solutions, probably using arrays and dictionaries(things which I totaly don't understand at the moment).

  • Thats what I do in my game, layout size 2000,500 at the moment. Now whether that is a good idea or not don't look at me, as I'm a newb myself, and this is my first game...

  • I understand what he wants but have no idea how to do it myself, I've just decided to just let the player "jump" since in my game it's in smaller increments(20px I think) so it doesn't look to weird.

    Anyway, what he wants Dom, imagine every FPS you've ever played for example, in those games when you see an object(lets take a human for this example) move from point A to point B, you see him walking/runing there, right? And this transition from point A to B while playing a walk animation can be a smooth and as slow as the dev wants, pixel by pixel. What happens to him is the animation plays in point A and then the object just dissapears from A and appears in B. Like in Flappy Bird for example.

    Hope I'm explaining it better.

    I think the "How to make a platformer" tutorial could help you Arlys if you're trying to make a walking/runing transition, but for other objects/movements I have no idea mate, sorry.

  • So, how exactly do I integrate game center in my C2 game with cocoonjs? Basically I want just what clay.io provides, a nice high score leaderboard with post to facebook and tweet buttons.

    But I've searched google and this forum and didn't manage to find any tutorials yet. So how do I do it, is it easy like clay.io, do I need to know code, what are the steps?

  • We're not old mate, we're fossils... I'm not exactly sure why but that sounded comforting in my head...

    Anyway, for a template and a first try your game looks pretty good, and since it's a simply style/concept it's pretty easy to expand. You could have the player go to another part of the level if he leaves the screen, you could have sub-levels behind some of those doors that tie in to the main level, maybe add some elevators that transport you around more easily then the stairs but they olso attract the guards when you use them, etc.

  • ArcadEd is there any chance you could make a tutorial for newbies on the whole process from exporting your game out of C2 to the game being up on the ios store?

    I too was one of those people who thought that making the game would be the hard part, but after getting about half way through my game design, and reading up on google about apples guidelines and stuff I'm starting to wonder, will my game ever get accepted...?

  • If you like Manley's idea why not make the items level specific? In the underwater level have some fish species, maybe an old rusted anchor, sunk&lost viking galleon, etc. Haunted house put some ghosts in, some ectoplasma, bloody axe. And so on...

  • Do what I did, go to soundcloud, start listening to peoples creations and when you find someone you like(think his style would fit your game, etc.) send them a message telling them you would like to bring them onboard for your project. Be sure to state clearly that you can't offer them any money hands down, but that if the game makes any money(I olso suggest you include the phrase "and realisticaly it probably won't" so as to not get their hopes up) they will recieve their share.

    At the end of the day if nothing else at least they will have their name in the credits and something new to add to their portfolio.

    That's how I found myself a very talented mate who is gonna make some awesome music for my game. Hopefully after I release the game I will be able to reward his hard work...

  • First time I hear of this, but I'd actually really like to know the answer to that question myself before spending 100$(huge sum for me) on their license.
