I gave up on it because of a few reasons, like, I was tailoring the game to be like MapleStory and spent the most time working on making the clothing system and stuff, so if I somehow eventually got popular and then Nexon finds out I used their content, I'd perhaps get sued or have to remove the game or something, making all my work a waste of time

I also wanted to make the combat more speedy, along with speedy platforming and stuff I never got round to it because I focused on everything else for some reason, like monsters, skills, stats, map stuff, ect. It's awesome you have the same vision, I really want to see a crazy speedy combat system with MapleStory sprites.

Making the game have dual-wielding weapons is (imo) difficult in terms of how it controls. I don't think I show it in the video, but I made all 1Handed weapons dual-wieldable, and it would appear and position accordingly. Looked pretty cool, but since I didn't work on combat, it didn't change much in terms of gameplay, but it would boost your damage

In terms of how you get the 2nd weapon to look nice and appear nice, depends on how you setup your game. If you are using spritesheets, then you may have a bit more work to do because of the way MapleStory works (although I have some ideas that might help that I've thought of whilst typing this). If you are making your own "clothes" system then it would be technically easier to implement, at least it was for me (just took time to align frames lol). I'm not sure how you plan to do things, so I rather not go into each thing and only talk about what you want to know

Yeah, that problem (Nexon rights) is really boring... I've already had problems with Rights like this before, but in the end the only thing that the company asked me was to change the game name (since I used a name exactly like the original

And man, I created a "fast version" of the way I plan to do the things I showed with the video, if you want to see, I can PM you with the link, please tell me if you are interrested in seeing it ok?

  • do the characters overlap ever? or are they always a certain distance apart?

I think the are always a certain distance apart, but this distance varies...

  • how about dividing your sword and character, then make an imagepoint on his hand.

everytime you attack, spawn your sword on that imagepoint in higher layout

I think you didn't understood what I want... I want to make the sword get "inside" the enemy body!

  • alan349, isn't the guy Kirito? Correct me if I'm wrong

    Exactly! Haha

  • Title says all, but take this picture above as example.

I want to make it like the sword is perforating his chest..

  • alan349 Ahh I don't watch a lot of anime sadly

It's awesome you are going to use those sprites. I spent a lot of years making a MapleStory-style game using the sprites, but eventually gave up on the project. Here's a

It seems like you know what you are doing in terms of programming, but if you ever have any MapleStory-specific questions on how to implement something similar to how Maple does it, feel free to PM me!

Wow, your project was very good! Why did you gave up with it?

Another reason to make me want to use those sprites is that there's a specific Anime that maplestory made a special event with its characters, and their look (hair, face, clothes, etc) if available for use...

I would to like to implement 1:05-1:11 too, but I think (I don't know if you know a way of doing it) that wielding a sword and a gun together is impossible :/

Hooray, MapleStory! I used to use sprites from MapleStory to make a game with gameplay mechanics similar to MapleStory.

Considering I'm aware of the amount of sprites that the game has, and considering there are websites dedicated to providing sprites and audio from this game, and even generating character spritesheets (PerionCorner, BannedStory) I'd pick this style rather than the 1st image.

Yay! Finally someone understood me! And if you are a anime fan, check out the character I think you'll figure out who he is

  • alan349, I think it i impossible for us to give you a real comparison of which is better because we really can't compare unless you can provide the two games for everyone to compare. Nice graphics can make a good game better, but it can't save a poor game. Good game play makes the game fun, but if the graphics aren't visually pleasing, players might not be attracted to try it out for the first time. An honest opinion can only be given once we can compare the two next to each other.

Personally, I would work on game mechanics and functions. If you feel it has the potential, you can always add graphics later on. Adding game mechanics later on is much much more difficult.

If oyu want to, try comparing this one ( https://www.scirra.com/arcade/addicting-action-games/17390/heavens-fate-v075-new-spawn-method ) to this one ( https://www.scirra.com/arcade/addicting-action-games/11540/my-rpg-v40 )

EDIT: I don't know what happens but the scirra arcade seems to be not working right now...

Obs: The second one isn't exactly like the game i'm planning to do but the gameplay is somewhat similar ok?

  • You shouldn't use giant images like that anyway. Instead use one tilemap for the tiles and another for collisions.

Can you explain it better please?

  • Actually, tiles are perfect for this. You can edit the collison polygon for each tile. And if the tileset has the solid behabiour everything is solid, except for the blank spaces.

... The problem is that this is a unique image! And any of the scirra options (sprite, tiledbackground or tilemap) worked... Understood?

  • Is there a way to make tiles from a unique image?

    I have this image:

I want to know if there's a way to make the tiles solids and leave the transparent parts as "blank" enabling the character to move through it..

I already tried tilemaps but they are too inaccurate..

    Aby idea?

  • Guys, let me explain better the situation: Since I'm not a game designer I can't create more animations/objets, etc, THEN I'm limited to the sprites I currently have. That's why I'm asking you for help! Understood now?
