  • Hey Scirra Community!

I've been browsing the "How do I section?", and I do not know which topic would lead me to making a character follow a certain path (a line or perimeter). Do I have to use pathfinding for this?

    Thanks for your help!

  • Great example Kyatric!! Thanks!!

  • Hey Super Moi!

The concept is VERY interesting. I actually don't remember playing a game where the majority of the level is obscured, and you have to guide the character through obstacles using mouse clicks.

The problem is that the level is way too constrained for that amount of physics and bouncing! Moreover, once you are done with the first set of spikes of the first level, it is quite frustrating to click in a "wrong" place and send your character to those very spikes you already passed.

I recommend you adding "click zones" to the character that will somehow guide him in a better way.

OUTSTANDING art in the menu section. Did you do it all by yourself? I ask you because I'm amazed by how fast you created the art given the little amount of time.

Congrats for your effort!!! Keep working on it!! Do not leave it gathering dust!!!

  • Thanks Vaupell!!

    Fortyseven,

I bought the license from the website.

I can download all the betas, and use it without any other "required platform".

I personally recommend you buy it from the website (as of late January 2013).

The support given directly by Scirra (licensehelp@scirra.com) is impressive, in case you have problems/questions.

I do not know anything about the quality of the support given by the Steam platform; although there is a growing Steam Community forum where Scirra members are giving tips and advice.

Hope this helps to any game developers interested in buying a personal license.

  • I've bought a personal license through the website! However, I haven't received the personal license code. Does anybody know how long does it take to receive the code? I've also sent an email to licensehelpsiw@scirra.com.

UPDATE: I've just received the e-mail!! Thank you Scirra for your OUTSTANDING Support.

  • Well done!!! I'm sure Ubi Land is getting the response it deserves!!! Congrats!!!

  • PixelMonkey

    Thanks for the advice!

Buying from the Scirra website just "feels" right.

The Steam community will definitely grow and have an identity of its own, but I've grown fond of the website community.

  • I want to buy a personal license. Should I buy it from Steam or directly from the Scirra website? If I buy it from the Scirra website, how long does it take to receive the activation key?

  • Dyre

Now, after a few tweaks, this is what worked best for me:

I defined a Global Variable: LevelLayout

On Start of Layout ---> Add 1 to LevelLayout

Event --> Go To "Layout "&LevelLayout

Important note which may work for some designers:

NEVER reset your global variables when using end of layout. Setting specific values to each variable may be a more effective solution.

  • I think that no matter whether you are indie or a publisher-funded studio, quality is always important.

I truly believe in the concept "Finish your game. Its audience will be waiting for it". Therefore, quality is pivotal.

On the other hand, being close to your audience, participating in forums, helping and collaborating in the indie scene pays dividends later on.

In the end, you cannot develop games expecting them to become "hits". The impression I got from the article was that the studio anticipated a hit. Just make a game that reflects who you are and how you collaborate. The money will eventually come.

    Anyway, great article.

    Thanks for sharing.
