  • The problem with visual scripting stuff like Blox3 for example is, that it does not really help you to understand unity. It just wraps unity's way of thinking and working into something other than written out code, but it is still the same code.

It is therefor not super-helpful (imho). If you really need to go down the Unity road, the only way is to go all the way and learn it from the ground up, and if you do that, you don't need those visual things anymore. Just my personal opinion of course.

  • for the grandkids...

Alright, gramps Why don't you strip everything out of the capx but the faulty bit and let Santa (us) have a peek at it?

Patience, young grasshopper, it will come sooner or later.

  • Yes, but it has not been updated in the last 2 years. They are still working on it.

    Just a thought:

if you are doing this as an exercise that is supposed to have impact as a portfolio piece.. why not go all the way and make a new engine?

Imagine a recruiter looking at your portfolio. "Made a working, published game engine" vs. "Made an exporter for a 3rd party engine".

Reverse engineering all the stuff that Scirra did.. that amount of time might just as well go into designing something new, and you would not be bound by C2's philosophy and restrictions.

  • This one, for example:

I'd say for real, dependable multiplayer stuff C2 is unsuitable.

  • has anything changed or expanded with it since its release? Specifically, my goal is to build a simple 2D persistent world.

    Nope.

Some 3rd party plugins have surfaced since then, but C2's own multiplayer is unchanged.

  • I too am in favor of keeping this whole thing as a thread with an updated first posting instead of a tutorial. For some reason, it feels a lot more accessible to me, and organic.

  • Thanks for testing this. Since reviewers punish you when Steam Overlay isn't working.. we need it.

  • That's a C2 game??

Yeah, he kind of pushed himself and the thing to the limits, I guess

This was one (of several) threads about it:

  • You can.

Export your game via NW.js, and use one of the steam-plugins to get access to achievements and other steam functionality.

A good example for a Steam game made with C2 would be this:

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I may have been mislead by using the Linux OBS.. there the "game capture mode" doesn't exist.
