  • Sure. Twitch is the new Youtube.

Or as TheRealDannyyy might say "welcome to the 20's"

I'd say "welcome to the future" but you were close enough.

... trying to get something that wasn't meant to be recorded changed. ...

Technically the web/browsers weren't meant to be used as a gaming platform either and look where we are now.

So I think it would be a valid point to let the browser vendors "catch up" and make it possible to use a fair amount of screen recorders to record the game canvas.

The developers behind their screen recording software, don't give a damn about specifically working around recording issues, unless your game is "worth" the effort.

Sure some of them might look into it but mostly only AAA games are able to get their full attention and get a custom workaround for their games.

    Also Ashley Twitch streaming?

    Can we do that?

Test it out yourself or ask one of us, no need to call Ashley in for that.

If OBS or Xsplit are able to capture the game canvas, they should also be able to stream it.

  • I mean straight from the game like Hearthstone does.

  • newt a plugin for that would be really handy actually!

  • I'll give this one over to our JS devs in the C2 discord server.

I will post an update about it here as well.

EDIT: Could be requested in a different topic if desperately needed.

  • Just an update. I tried some more Chromium args based on armaldio suggestions.

Adding --disable-gpu to chromium-args fixes both the flickering and the recording issues, but significally reduces the overall performance of the app and brings graphic issues with blend modes. So this can't be a final solution, but it's another hint.

Details have been passed to NW.js team as well.

  • Tested your capx exported with nw.js 0.18.5 from scirra and I'm able to record the "gameplay" with Fraps (free)

full size 60fps with overlay (activation by F9 key) Fraps started before app.

    Edit: record sample : https://www.dropbox.com/s/7gjprpody87o2 ... 3.avi?dl=0

  • Sorry for shamelessly using this topic to gather everyone's attention but we've recently opened up a bug report in the Chromium Bugs forum.

Even though it's not directly about the recording issues, it might still be possible that they are related to this bug.

To come to my point, I would like to request all C2 members to go over to Chromium Bugs and give the report a star.

By giving it a star you're providing active support and making the bug more noticeable to the chromium developers.

This is easier than you think, you just have to login with your Google account and simply click on the empty star on the upper-left side, DONE!

Thanks a lot and let's hope that we get these bugs out of the way as soon as possible!

  • I've test NWjs export with this new argument and I still get a black screen when trying to record with OBS, anyone else tested OBS?

  • I've also had a bit of a problem with recording my game but now when I have switched from OBS and Fraps to Shadowplay (Nvidia Share) for gameplay recordings it finally works great. It is so easy to use and doesn't cause any slowdown while recording. It captures all C2 exported games without a problem. Just a recommendation for everyone who needs to get some gameplay for their trailers and videos <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile">

Here is a video of it:

I know it doesn't solve the youtuber problem but if you just have to capture gameplay then you should try it out.

EDIT: OBS also works fine with C2 exports but lagged for me sometimes so that is why I switched to Shadowplay.

    Good luck with your projects <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

I just installed and tried OBS. It works fine for me. Recorded a gameplay on default settings. I just installed the OBS, launched the game and started to record.

What NW.js version do you use?

  • Did you manage to get it to work with "Capture Game"? because capture screen and window are working, but they not as optimal for game recording.

    I use NWjs 0.18.7 and c2 r239.

Are you sure you are using the current OBS and not OBS classic? Wasn't that "game capture mode" a purely OBS classic thing?

  • It was reported to me by a someone who tried to stream my game on twitch, I downloaded both classic and studio latest versions, both have a game capture option, and it doesn't work on both.

  • I may have been mislead by using the Linux OBS.. there the "game capture mode" doesn't exist.
