  • Nooo!

  • Well, as the question has never really been answered definitively either way, and it's relevant to the discussion... and I do periodically check back to see if there are any updates in relation to this.

I for one take the suggestion that C2 is intended to completely supersede CC as a good sign for those hoping for EXEs... eventually.

  • I tried setting the magicam plugin to 'global' so I wouldn't have to add a new instance for every layout, but this appears to make the resulting game crash.

Is it possible to do this without killing the game, or should I just work around it?

  • Just thought I'd reiterate that this is still a problem, and it's pretty much game breaking in some situations.

The newest update that added wall detection gave me the opportunity to test a (very) simple super meat boy style wall jump setup... and it works great...

...except that sometimes it doesn't. Just like before, the player sprite will sometimes be a pixel or so off... and it will fail to hit the wall... which kills the wall jump.

I feel like this issue was kind of waved off as unimportant when I raised it, but I do see it as a serious problem. And since I never noticed it happening in Classic, I don't understand why it can't be fixed in C2.

Ashley, can you explain why it isn't fixable? Or why it's not important to at least try to fix?

edit: Here's a capx that illustrates the problem... if you try wall jumping away from one wall to another without using any arrows, the player sprite will sometimes just fail to hit the other wall.

    capx

edit: Here's an equivalent example from Classic, working just fine and dandy.

    exe

  • This appears to work very well. Nice work.

  • & Kyatric:

I couldn't resist. I do it to everyone, even in person. It's probably the single most annoying thing about me. :D

  • Just for the rhetorical practise, I want to point out that Construct2 is itself released as an exe. If webapps are so great, why isn't C2 a web app?

(Now, if Ashley pops in and announces that they're porting the C2 application to HTML5, I'll eat my hat.)

  • You can read it from top to bottom or browse for a peculiar article.

I've looked through the whole thing, and none of the articles seem particularly peculiar to me. Most of them are actually rather sensible.

    Badoomp.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Oooh, that's exciting. Just wondering... would there be any improvements to aspect ratio handling in the works?

  • Maybe it's just me, but testimonials scream 'desperate' to me. I associate them with infomercials and medical quackery (usually infomercials advertising medical quackery.)

That's not to say that word of mouth isn't a good way to find things, but really I think the best advertising for C2 are the games that are made with it. I found construct after watching a video on youtube of a work in progress game... if I'd come to the scirra site afterwards and the first thing I saw was a page of "I use construct to triple my productivity" type quotes - I would have been immediately turned off.

But, as I say... it's probably just me.

  • I'm not an expert, but I think you should change the 'type' to 'object' instead of 'world' in the edittime.js

That way it won't show up in the layout as if it were a visible item.

  • Yeah, I know there would be drawbacks, and most people would use bitmaps. But, I could see some situations where it would be the better choice.

Obviously you'd have to choose between certain functionality ... as with any other use of vector v bitmap. Bitmaps have drawbacks too... more detail does mean more resource usage... If C2 had the ability to actually generate the vector graphics within the game it would mean, if you did things right, a super small download in comparison?

I wouldn't expect it to be a priority. But I think it could be particularly powerful as an added bonus.
