    Hahahahah... that cracked me up.

I'm probably being hypocritical for feeling bad about running over lizards when it never bothers me to run over insects. I did accidentally run over the tip of a snake's tail a few months ago and it was pretty awful... the poor thing was rolling around in obvious pain and there was nothing that I could do for it but apologize, which did nothing to ease its pain and made me look like a buffoon at the same time.

Buffoon... now there's a word that doesn't get tossed around enough.

  • Okay... maybe that isn't fair. Perhaps there are certain breeds of lizard that can be trained and taught tricks. I'm not talking about those lizards. I'm talking about Anoles, and they are certifiably braindead.

I enjoy biking and there are plenty of places close to where I live that are nice to ride through, but no matter where you go you have to contend with these little three to four inch lizards called "Anoles" that love to sit and sun on the sidewalk.

    The reason why I say that they are so stupid is because apparently whenever a threat approaches an Anole its brain can process one and only one response;

"Turn 180 degrees, and then run like crazy in a straight line."

All well and fine if the threat is approaching from directly in front of you.

But the ridiculous thing is that oftentimes they will be on the righthand side of the road and facing the right, so when they see me coming they panic and do the only thing that their little brains can think of, which is to run directly underneath my tires.

If they had stayed still, or better yet... ran forward they would still be alive. But nooooooo. Evolution can't be bothered to take notice of large, moving pieces of metal and rubber.

So... Anoles are dumb. Really, REALLY dumb.

  • I'll have to try the new one when I get home tonight. Its a cool idea for a demo, but like the others have said the controls take some getting used to. A little choppy at times, too... but that just might be my computer.

  • http://www.mediafire.com/?53w5xomzctx (low detail)

    http://www.mediafire.com/?j3bxwrzxzgh (high detail)

I didn't try out the physics engine until Ashley released .96 and the new update to it, so I messed around a little and made this demo.

    "1" selects "Jack"

    "2" selects "small rock"

    "3" selects "large rock"

Click the left mouse button to spawn objects and watch as they roll and bounce down the platforms. There's really nothing else to it.

    A couple of notes...

Yes, I put everything onto one layer. No, I don't know why I did it the hard way. I know how to use multiple layers but I choose not to anyway. So there.

Secondly... I intentionally left in a bug. You can make objects pop out of the ground and at first I was going to fix it, but it's kind of an amusing effect so I decided to leave it in.

Any other flaws that you find are a product of my own ineptitude.

(the "high detail" demo was tested on an Athlon XP 2600 w/ 512mb of ram and a Radeon 9800pro... the lowest I can get the framerate is 52fps when I'm clicking the mouse like mad and waving it around the screen)

ps. both demos use pixel shaders (the low detail only uses it for the cursor) but they should still run if your video card doesn't support them

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I'm getting wildly curious about this!! .cap, non-ps version or even some screenshots would be nice!

Maybe a stickied thread could be made that explains how to use the fallback feature when pixel shaders aren't supported? Even if it doesn't look as good at least it will be playable...

  • in my rebuttal i would like to point out that even after penile shrinkage, measuring with the metric measurement system will yield a greater, more impressive number compared to the imperial measurement system

Hmmm. Maybe you have a point. 19 centimeters does sound more impressive...

(that wasn't over the line, was it? )

  • I think its a good idea to go through the "Help/Tech Support" if you're completely new to construct and look at all of the threads where people asked for specific help with something. Most of the problems have been solved and can be good for learning new things.

  • I really dont know why USA do not use Metric System and Celcius. Only USA, Liberia, Myanmar dont use Metrics.

Decades ago our scientists determined that using the Metric System can lead to impotence and even penile shrinkage, so it was with a heavy heart that we created a new system of measurement.

  • VERY cool!

Out of the ten levels 2 and 5 took the most trial and error to get *just* right. The rest of the levels were pretty easy to figure out, although again I sometimes had to retry several times to get it perfect.

Level 6 was kind of funny... I got it on my first try but the ball was rolling so slowly I kept thinking, "Aw, crap... its not going to make it to the ne- Oh, hey!".

It would be interesting to see if there's more than one way to complete some of the levels...

  • > If you're making a game I'd recommend using Sprites for buttons - the window controls are intended for applications, precisely because they have these layering limitations.

    >

Of course... why would I just make a custom cursor if I'm not going to bother doing the same with the buttons?

    Thanks again.

  • I was trying to make a sprite overlap a button but neither "always send to front", "always place in front of object" or moving either the sprite or the button to a different layer worked.

Is the "button" object locked to the top layer?

I wanted to make a custom mouse cursor but it always goes behind whatever button I make...
