  • K, thanks for that PhoenixNightly , I might copy parts of it.

Loool, I don't care about fines, I got no money, no job(can't withold wages), no assets, so let the arseholes fine me, I'm sure they'll be seeing the money any day now, hahaha.

But I guess this would be a good time to check and see if my country does extraditions.

  • Well the reason contest say 18 or older is due to the fact that when signing up you are signing an agreement which a minor isn't legally capable of doing unless they are emancipated (IN the US). Also does your contest collect information that would also go against the COPAA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) which state information on minors can not be collected. Their parent would have to do the registering for them signing the agreement on their behalf. But for a contest like that I don't think it is a serious as cash prizes where you then have to supply identification before cashing in the prize. Like the lottery you have to provide proof of identity when you collect your winnings.

But on serious note there isn't a way you can really tell but if discovered majority of time that person would be disqualified.

Loool, you make it sound so official PhoenixNightly . Look I'm just a regular guy, not a corporation or firm or anything like that. So there isn't gonna be any agreement to sign or anything like that. You just play my game, send out some messages on social media about it, maybe donate, email me screenshot proofs of those, then I put all the emails in a hat and draw one.

The winner will get a ps4 or xbox1(his choice) so in the end that person would have to provide me with name and address, postal code, etc. so I can ship it to them.

So, how much trouble could I realistically get in for that? Cause I definitely don't feel like searching for and reading the laws of every country on this earth.....

  • Hello World,

You know how when you find a contest and look closer and you see in tiny little letters "Must be 18 or older" or stuff like that? How much does that really matter?

Say I want to hold a contest in one of my games and the person who wins is 13 lets say and I just send him/her the prize, can I get in trouble for that?

If the answer is yes say I add "Must be 18 or older or have parental permission" and then the kid, obviously, fakes the parental permission. Do I still get in trouble then or am I off the hook? How in the world would I be able to check if his parents actually gave him permission?

    Thank you.

  • Yes matrixreal I'm using intelxdk and crosswalk. Glad you like the game.

  • Easier said then done GooseNinja ...

  • And I don't really understand what you're talking about... too many technical terms, lool, I'm a noob.

  • Hello World,

So I was wondering what would be the best hashtags to use when you try to promote your game on twitter? And by this I mean hashtags that will actually get you some retweets.

    So far I've been using:

#indiedev - this usually seems to get you at least 1 or 2 retweets

#android - haven't noticed and retweets so far

    #androidgames - same deal

#gamedev - indievideogames.com posted my game on their website and olso sent out a tweet that used the gamedev hashtag and it got quite a few retweets(around 10 I think). Now whether this is a normal occurrence when using this hash, or it was a fluke, or it happened only because indievideogames.com where the ones who tweeted I have no idea.... but it was quite nice.

So, what about you guys, what experiences have you had with different hashtags and what would you recommend?(I'm only publishing games on android atm, but feel free to talk about iOS tags too in case others might be interested.)

    Thank you.

  • Well, speaking from my own experience, using cranberry's iap plugin; I have a button that takes you to a donation screen that uses managed products, there you select the ammount you wanna donate, disable ads if you want, etc. At the end, after all that's been done, on the button that closes the donation screen I have actions "PhonegapIAP | consume product 1", "PhonegapIAP | consume product 2", etc.

I think/hope that's the right way to do things, but I honestly have no idea since my games barely have any users and nobody as ever donated so far, so....

P.S. This post might have been more appropiate in the "How do I?" section, I think?

  • It's a nice idea, the problem is that it's all estimations, how much of that will they really be able to hold up to? Olso we will proly need some plugins to take advantage of their stores features(leaderboards, iap, etc.) won't we?

  • The reality is that you won't have anything to lose since it's super hard to get our games out there and get them noticed, so you probably won't have many installs.

But there is always that 0.00000000000000000000000*another billion 0*00001 chance that your game will be the next big thing and will set you up for life, in which case you will definitely wanna try some monetization in.

  • bump.

  • Well then I still must be doing something wrong/must not be getting something...

I'll send you a PM LittleStain with some files, if you'd be willing to help me further.

  • Seriously LittleStain , I don't wanna have to use crop as that would show too little of the game on certain devices, and having enough space/time to maneuver is kinda important in my game. Plus I would have no idea where to put my HUD&stuff so they don't get cropped.

I've read 3 tutorials and I still don't get it....

    Tut1

    Tut2

    Tut3

Is there really nobody out there that can show me(and other noobs like me) once and for all how to clearly design games with scale outer? For both landscape and portrait situations, how big the safe zone is and where to put it, what window size and layout size to have(as you can see one tutorial says 640, 960, another one says 480 x 640), how to center the screen, how to scale the sprites(if they need scaling, and what size should they originally be created in), what if I want to have different "pages" on one layout like in this example, etc, etc, etc....

  • So what i was trying to achieve all this time is crop? Well, is it better with scaling LittleStain? And what's the difference, what would I need to do different in one as oposed to the other?

Like I said, I'm very confused about this part, even after reading 3 tutorials....

  • Good question LittleStain . I consider the middle of the screen the middle of my layout size.

So if I have a layout width of 640px(middle=320), but if the user has an otherworldly device with resolution of 30x30, then he should only be able to see from 305 till 335.

Is it wrong to think about it like that?
