  • I open my event sheets, and spend 15 minutes trying to understand what the heck I was doing and what each of those events do! Haha actually mine is still ok because each event sheet has around 120 events only, so its still very manageable.

Ultimately, C2 is easy to use but definitely hard to master.

    How true!

Ashley, Groups are super useful and important, but still I think we find ourselves in many situation where we create a a few groups, say Group A, B and C. But Group B and C also needs to have triggers in Group A and it can quickly get quite messy when there are tonnes of groups than need to share triggers and events.

How about implementing color codes? Perhaps for the Events box. For example, I can set all my player controls to have a yellow event box, player interacting with enemies to have a red event box, scores and lives calculation to have a green event box, etc. This way even if scores and lives have events need to be in the player interacting with enemies group, because I can set the event box to be green, I can immediately by a glance. It would make recognizing and managing events that much more easier I think.

  • Also I have a nice British accent that I hope will give the videos a little extra class

Hahaha I surrender to your might charm!

  • It should have an improvement. How much I am not sure, but overall, because bugs are reduced and efficiency increased, it will work better and faster.

  • My simplest game, with webstorage and highscores, ran for under 150 events across 4 layouts, and under 10 globals. My current game, currently at 6000+ events across 50+ layouts with over 40 globals.

  • I guess it depends on people. For me, I use both but at different stages. When I just found C2, I watched only the video tutorials because they showed the entire process of how C2 works. Written tutorials are perhaps harder from a newbies perspective since most of the "simple" and "obvious" steps are still unknown. So video tutorials are more effective in my mind and we really see what we will be doing, and we can follow it exactly without ever having to think "where do I find that?" or "I don't understand how to implement that". Once you are more familiar, written tutorials are more effective in terms of time.

  • Your old version should still work fine, but it is highly recommended to update, since XDK is still not fully complete and it is constantly improving. So to take advantage of all the new fixes, features and the stability of the new version, I think you should update it.

  • I really like it too! Just caught me by surprise though.....when I heard the sound of the video I wasn't expecting, I thought crap! Don't tell me my pc is infected by an adware! Haha once I saw the video and all, whew, what a relief! But it really does look so much more appealing! Great job!

  • I am not sure, but I think Scirra counts according to the last time you were online. So if you visited on Monday at 1pm, and you visited again on Tuesday at 2pm, the streak would have ended. I can't confirm this but I think it is based on experience (so close to my 1 year badge when it happened )

  • One of the most effective way to tell what is slowing your game down, is to look at the debugger and see what are the aspects that changes the most once the game starts to lag. From there, you can make the necessary changes. Like what the others mentioned, collisions can take a huge toll on your game if not used effectively.

  • I think many 3D artist charge by the project over here. Because depending on what type of modelling, animation and realism they need, the charges will vary. Since you are still a student and still new, you should look into collaborations. The are many people forming groups, you could join one of theirs or perhaps start one on your own.

  • Hi ziadali, and welcome to the forums!

I think it depends on if a) you have an interest in graphics and b) if you have the time to learn.

If you are really interested in learning, there are no shortages of tutorials out there in the internet, especially youtube. I am a 3D graphics artist, but I have never tried to played with 2D softwares before. But in the past 4 months, I have been learning and am now a level that I am comfortable creating 2D arts by myself.

Hiring someone is always risky if you are just starting out. Money, time constraints and communications/ clear objectives are all things that are part of the risk. That is why, many people who just started up prefer to join groups to gain more experience and connections.

  • Crosswalk puts the chromium webview into your APK, which uses about 16MB of space. It only works on 4.0 and later, but gives you all the features of a recent chromium on all phones.

That's really interesting. 16MB is a huge difference for mobile games. Does anyone have a link to what these features are in the C2 equivalent? If we are not using those features, than just using the Android option would be a very attractive indeed.

  • No problem chemapop. Cocoonjs and Crosswalk are both wrappers used for C2 games so that the games are able to be played in mobile games. Cocoonjs was the preferred choice quite some time ago, but Crosswalk now looks like it is the best option.

Anyway, to get started, you can read the link below.

    https://www.scirra.com/tutorials/809/how-to-export-to-android-with-crosswalk

This is also the same link if you were to go to export in C2, choose Android and click on the learn more about Crosswalk. Currently they are experiencing some server problem as mentioned by their representatives, but am pretty confident it will be back to normal very soon.

  • I honestly wish I could join (would be the first of challenge / competition that I ever join), but I am on a deadline to finish my own game by the end of December. Best of luck to our other members who are going to participate!

  • Yup, I too am getting the same error as twg and It might well be a problem with the server side if we are all getting the same error.
