  • I just got home and refreshed the manual page I had open on my home comp, and instead of the distinct bolder color, it's now a washed-out aqua and the border is missing from around the manual sections.

Is this a glitch that can be switched back to make the manual sections and key words more distinct/legible and attractive in color?

  • Thanks, Newt! I already had them on there, but please post on anything you come across!

  • <---- Anal-retentive number cruncher goes *twitch*. =P

[EDIT: For non-English speakers, "anal-retentive" means excessively detail-oriented. =) Only by word origin in psychology does it have anything to do with poop.]

  • As a point of interest, I hit 30 consecutive days today and received 200 rep instead of 100, so definitely certain point values have been adjusted from the stated amounts. (yay!) I wonder if we can compile an updated list. I know it's 10 points per comment like, 30 bonus for 3 likes, 2 points per forum post, and now 200 for 30 consecutive days on the site.

Hahah, congrats on your mysterious rep, teahousemoon. Chances are someone's been liking your comments.

  • It was a problem with the host, ZoneEdit, although the host hasn't yet explained what was wrong.

  • ...the way it should be.

    =)

  • Oops, I accidentally the site.

  • GenkiGenga and R0J0hound, thanks a ton for the clarification!

To explain my confusion on item 3, Event 1 has a condition, "System: On Start of Layout" before the associated action, whereas it appears that Event 2 is just the action with no corresponding condition, and is linked to action 3 which *does* have a condition, i.e., "Ball: Is Overlapping Wall."

If I'm about to figure all that out as I finish reading the Event section of the manual, then I apologize, and I'll work it out. =)

    Thanks for your time!

  • "So now I'm relearning trig so I can figure out this forum answer which three other advanced designers all agree was incredibly useful."

So saith I to my friend on gchat. I downloaded R0J0hound's capx and I understand the principle of capturing the inverse of the object's effective horizontal and vertical angles on impact, but just in case you guys can explain the math and variables faster than I can figure it out myself:

    1) Why set the instance variables "vx" and "vy" to 100 times the cos(self.Angle)?

    2) Is "dt" an established variable I should know about, and what is it?

    3) How did you create the "move horizontally" and "move vertically" events? I don't see a condition for

         Ball -> Set X to -> self.X + self.vx * dt

    Thanks anyone who can help!

  • I just completed week 4 of 6 of the Gamification course you tipped us off to. It's been really outstanding, and will definitely not be the last Coursera class I take.

The only problem I've run into is that part of your grade is a result peer assessments, and if you wind up with a non-native English speaker, or an individual with poor reading comprehension or critical reasoning skills, you can lose points without cause. Overall, though, quite valuable. Thanks!

  • There are 185 tutorials at present, with 10 per page, each accompanied by about four lines of description, plus associated tags, social options, etc.

I like all that data, and the previews, but I feel like it would be good to be able to see more at once in a smaller space, and perhaps sortable by topic (not necessarily mandatorily sorted) like Rory said. Maybe the preview descriptions could be collapsed to begin with, but expand on a click?

[Edit: Ok, whoops, I just clicked the All Tutorials Page, and that's great, but how about we put the tutorial rating by each of those, and enable sorting it by tag/overarching-topic, etc.?]

  • If you can post a brief demo with stand-in graphics, your design document, and a list of the art assets you'll need done, maybe potential artists will have a better idea whether your project's a good fit for their time, style, and ability.

  • You're welcome, DravenX, and thanks for the kind words, Knudsen. I'm going to start combing the Help Wanted forum for more active Scirra members, but it would help tremendously if people keep posting +requests or PM me.

  • You're welcome, kenli. =) DravenX, I added your site and then decided to customize a couple Scirra badges to highlight our own community members.

  • I wondered if somehow the date system had been spoofed, but the actual bug blocking you from participating but giving you mad rep in your failure is a lot funnier. =)

I can't help but try to figure system interactions out, but I'm most excited about learning enough of using C2 to answer someone else's question for the first time, making a game which gives someone a few happy minutes, and writing a useful tutorial or two.

A number of my friends participate in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) in November. I will have just graduated from college, and I'm going to have an unofficial "NaGaWriMo." Guess the "Ga..." =P
