  • Joannesalfa Someone more technically inclined would need to translate it, but you can find the Canvas Level 2 specs on the WC3 website as well.

Also, the caniuse website maintains a detailed browser compatibility matrix with HTML5. The overall compatibility scores for the major browsers are:

    94% Chrome

    77% Opera/Safari

    76% Firefox

    74% IE

    73% iOS Safari

    65% Blackberry

    62% Android

    10% Opera Mini

Chrome is easily the strongest, Opera/Safari/Firefox/IE/iOS Safari are are roughly comparable, Blackberry and Android are a bit behind, and Opera Mini barely charts.

  • According to the W3C's 2012 December 17 Press Release, "Though not yet W3C standards, these specifications are now feature complete, meaning businesses and developers have a stable target for implementation and planning."

The next stage is what they call "Candidate Recommendation," which will consist of extensive testing and work to ensure interoperability across platforms.

    Progress!

  • Nice forensics. Thanks, all.

  • Now it's really not amusing. People have between 14 and 16 dislikes, in many cases for making *positive* comments.

Can someone please delete my comment on the front page? I don't want to lose 90 rep because I have an opinion, and it's better not to post.

  • Clearly, I wasn't sufficiently discouraged =P and so I'm being "punished" for making an observation which isn't explicitly pro-Scirra (just how the community behaves, and in accordance with the gamified system).

The problem today, though, is that certain individuals are going unreasonably beyond and piling on illogical punishment on not just myself, but everyone outside the first three posts, even standard "huzzah"-style posts which are normally ignored or receive +1 or +2, and to make it even weirder, the top three posts, regardless of their merits, have been massively pumped.

  • Haha! Why yes: this very day I have lost 50 rep for my comment about the unpopularity of MS's Win8 on that front page. I'm up to -10.

That's why the comments in general are so overwhelmingly positive, because the system is designed that way.

There's a powerful incentive to post at all (which makes the site look good, because posts are seen as being engaging and drawing community feedback) with a +5 reward, and an additional +5 for every like (which encourages people to posts comments they believe others will look favorably on), and a -5 penalty for every dislike, which discourages people from posting critical comments.

  • The front page of today's blog comments is ridiculous: people have pumped three comments and just trashed everyone else who said anything.

Nothing close to this has EVER happened before, and constitutes foul shenanigans. It's getting way too risky to post a blog comment. You make one comment, and on average, you lose 30 rep. For what?

  • =( Yeah, I only check the website now to see if the design's been fixed and keep my visit streak going. I'm going to have to save every Construct 2 Manual page individually and reformat them into a custom doc to be able to study it. Might have the time next month.

  • I laid out my case on this other thread Manual Style Hard to Read Now and I showed new/old pics side by side, and discussed the issues with contrast/spacing/size.

Tom commented that they've gotten feedback indicating some people like the new look and they can't please everyone, but I haven't seenanyone who likes the new washed-out look, much less can make a case for why. I haven't read the manual for two weeks because I keep hoping they'll fix it. This is going to be a real problem, shortly.

  • I will say that the new format isn't bad on mobile, partly because of screen wrapping and relative text size. I can also imagine that that some users might prefer the softer background on mobile in dim light because pure white might be too harsh.

  • I still don't know how to change the font color, but you can manually block the grey background texture by using Adblock, and going to:

    Options>Customize Tab>Manually Edit Your Filters

    and adding:

    bg-texture-01.jpg

Voila! Contrast improved on all pages.

In Chrome, you can also right-click and select Inspect Element to tweak css formatting, but while I've found the font, I haven't figured out how to change the color yet.

  • IMHO, that's definitely a move back in the right direction. The pages in general have slightly better contrast, and the link/heading words are more visible than after the first change, but I'd agree with shinkan that the green could stand to be a bit darker yet. I wish I had a screen capture of the original.

I always thought the greens on the forum pages were perfect. The tutorial colors, as I checked in paint.NET are:

    Tutorial Header 43/109/118

    Section links 43/131/190

Section Headers and Emphasis 51/51/51 (blueish black))

    Background 255/255/255 (pure white)

    Text Seriously mixed, but darker

    New Header and Emphasis 6/195/171

New Background 246/246/244 (and thereabouts, as an off-white mix)

    Text Seriously mixed, but lighter

I believe I can respectfully describe the nature of my disapproval, and it has to do with

    contrast,

    font size, and

    line spacing.

I'm showing the two formats side-by-side below for comparison.

The original format on the right has a pure white background, which generates a high contrast on its own. The primary text color averages out to a dark grey, legible and distinct. The Headers and Emphasis are almost black, and stand out in bold. The font size is relatively large, with generous line spacing, making it very easy to read. It's comfortable on the eyes, and highly distinct.

Take a look at the new format on the left. The background is now an off-white, reducing contrast, and is then paired with a lighter grey primary text, further reducing contrast. The Header/Emphasis Text/Links are a light, pastel-leaning green-blue which plays on the eye as lighter, not darker, than the basic text. The line spacing has been reduced, making each line less distinct, and the font size is smaller, also making it harder to read.

All this has the effect of making the new format washed-out, harder on the eyes, more difficult to read, and less eye-catching.

Feel free to throw out everything I've said: I just think if I'm going to express a critical opinion, I owe it to you to explain it as clearly and helpfully as possible. =)

I would be very much in favor of continuing to use the old color scheme.

  • Woot! Thanks!

  • For the sake of Dedicated and Religious Updater, is it possible to find your consecutive update download count somewhere? Our user profile pages list forum posts, site comments, and days visited, but I'm not sure where to watch my update count climb. =)
