  • biological age is just an empty number. i know 40s who acts like spoiled kids and kids who are more mature then their parents, with life expirience richer then my own.

Forgive the sins of youth i say. We all've there.

When I found out he was 15, I could relate 'cause I had the same sense of humour at that age, but probably would've been a bit smarter in how I showed it. Hopefully, he's learned when to show that sense of humour, and when not to..

granhunter, good to see you've taken the criticism and cleaned it up. In a game setting, it's up to you really what you do, but in a tutorial, you need to be a tiny bit more professional. That's all I was trying to say.

  • First of all, I'm 15.

Explains a lot. I thought you might be young but I've known of 20 year olds to act the same way so.... Well I wouldn't have been as harsh if I'd known.

Sagal, and I thought you only bowed before things with alcohol content!

  • Jayjay, I think he meant "if you're going to LET what some person you don't even know..." meaning he thinks he upset me or something. You're right btw. If this was in a game, I wouldn't even be bothered but because it's a tutorial, I felt the swearing was unnecessary. I mean there was even a random "FUCK YOU" or "FUCK OFF" in there... like wtf?

granhunter, don't flatter yourself, you haven't got to me. It takes much more than a few curse words in a tutorial to upset me, but since you think I'm over reacting, then go ahead and continue to do more tutorials in this style and you'll see how other people (over)react.

  • Sensitive? I don't think so. I'm Scottish. We invented swearing! You can be funny (or "insane" as that's how you obviously want to appear) without plastering curse words all over a tutorial.

  • Holy crap. I was just about to sign out and noticed scidave's reply so thought I'd check it out a bit more and man..... I did not realise it was THAT BAD. I'll not leave further feedback because it just wouldn't be pleasant nor helpful, kinda like your tutorial.

  • Ah I remember a tool like this from the old days called CodeBank. There was a similar one that had different features but I cannot remember the name of it. Hope this people start using something like this for Construct. That'll be useful. I usually store all my code snippets in a text file....

  • It's not insane. It's childish. "OMG THIS TUTORIAL SUCKS ASS (from a straw)"? C'mon surely you can come up with better phrases to captivate the person looking to learn something? Since I lost interest after that 2nd screen, this is the best feedback I can give.

  • The AI has to know about the environment. So it needs to know what is actually classed as cover. I'm no AI expert.. hell I'm not even an AI beginner, more like an AI NOOB! but this is my (untested) theory (logically it should work, or you could mix this with A* to get the desired results)....

Let's say you have a PLAYER sprite, an ENEMY sprite, and also a WALL sprite (the cover). What I would do is have SAFECOVER sprites (dummy sprites) around the WALL sprite (all 4 corners and all 4 sides I think - maybe too much?) and have each of them fire off a bullet sprite (dummy sprite that has bullet behaviour) towards the PLAYER. If the bullet sprite hits the WALL, then that is flagged as a good cover position, so move onto the next SAFECOVER sprite. If it hits the player, then obviously it's not safe there, since the enemy can see the player, so therefore, the player can see the enemy. After checking all SAFECOVER sprites, cycle through the enabled ones (good cover) and maybe randomly choose which one to move the enemy towards so it seems less robotic.

If I was to do that kind of game, that's how I would approach it. I'm sure someone can come up with better but since no one has yet offered any suggestions, I thought I'd throw it out there. I have thought about this problem in the past Good luck!
