That is true but I see a lot go the route of Adobe and no payment no access. I even saw ones that I don't put in the subscription category of the Rent-To-Own being that you are told what you will have in the end. After so many payments the software is yours.

Having the tool is my number one priority. I put tools in my toolbox and I expect them to stay there for whenever I have the time and is ready to use them.

I don't mind supporting a company that I believe in but I have certain expectations to make me happy when I separate myself from my hard earned money. I am not one just to give money because I believe in something, it has to give me some gratification of what I desire.

Some people value owning the tool others value the output of a tool.

I have read a lot of threads about the C3 and been quiet. I was excited but I not only use different game engines... I collect them. People rebuttals to people against subscription is that it is no more than a fastfood meal a month. But miss the fact that some of those people have an issue with of lack of ownership.

Subscription will never give anyone the luxury of owning something. And continuously paying to use

software is not ownership. Kinda like a when your making payments on a car and you miss a payment your up for repossession. When it's paid off you don't have to worry about the bank taking it from you.

So maybe look at the fact it isn't about how little it is to pay yearly/monthly more of the fact that people like me need to own. This year I have gotten Gamemaker 2, Leadwerks Engine and recently added a Coppercube. C3 has been scratched from my list because it is not possible to collect. I haven't even wasted my time tinkering with C3 being that I know I will never subscribe.

I understand their reason and it is what it is. So for me it isn't about money and more about ownership which I feel is the same concern of the ones saying no to subscription.

  • LOL cool

  • Lol nah not official. But usually agreements stipulate if the person cheats or provides misleading information they face chances of being disqualified. But it also depend on the country and if you use the contest as a tax write off because technically the winner is obligated to pay taxes on winnings regardless in the US States. But you don't file a tax break how will they know that is what agreements usually stipulate any taxes is the responsibility of the winner. If you have rules to play then it's still technically an agreement that the entrant have to agree to go by. The example contest below limit only US residents are permitted to entering to minimize headache of worrying about other country laws.

    Extracted from contest rules:

The potential winner will be required to complete, sign and return to Sponsor an Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability (including, if legally permissible, a publicity release), an IRS form W-9 and any other documentation provided by Sponsor in connection with verification of the potential winner’s eligibility and confirmation of the releases and grant of rights set forth in these Official Rules, within ten days of attempted delivery of same. If a potential winner is a minor under the laws of his or her state of residency, Sponsor will have the right in its discretion to require the winner’s parent or legal guardian to sign the Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability or to award the prize in the name of the winner’s parent or legal guardian (who will in such event be required to complete, sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility/Release of Liability). The potential winner may also in Sponsor’s discretion be required to complete and return to Sponsor an IRS Form W-9 within 10 days of attempted delivery of same.

If it's a one time thing it probably could be snuck by but if it's a continuous thing you have to question is it worth the fines if you get caught.

Have you look at this. An amusing read...never finished...but good. I find I work better making my own path of doing things versus following others.

They isn't worried about their age. They are having a contest and wants to know what to do to protect themselves from a legal backlash if minors do lie and enter the contest.

  • I ignore genre because that I feel puts you in a box and you then force your mechanic to fit that aspect versus let it play how it play. So I say make it how you want it to play and afters find where it fits if it even does. Because you choose fps early on and maybe there is a better method of execution but you can't see that because your making it fit FPS qualities.

  • Well the reason contest say 18 or older is due to the fact that when signing up you are signing an agreement which a minor isn't legally capable of doing unless they are emancipated (IN the US). Also does your contest collect information that would also go against the COPAA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) which state information on minors can not be collected. Their parent would have to do the registering for them signing the agreement on their behalf. But for a contest like that I don't think it is a serious as cash prizes where you then have to supply identification before cashing in the prize. Like the lottery you have to provide proof of identity when you collect your winnings.

But on serious note there isn't a way you can really tell but if discovered majority of time that person would be disqualified.

  • Yes, when I take the time to slap one together. I focus more on how the game is played and the flow of the game itself. Like when I was supposedly making game for the LudamDare "Deception" challenge I did a quick 4 page Web of Deceit Design doc. I didn't focus on genre or audience. I wasn't looking to target set genre I let my game mechanic chose what it would be. As far as audience I ignore that too because sometimes what we think one audience would want actually attract another audience IMHO. I do what story I want to tell and those who find a interest in it will play it.

So in my Web of Deceit Design Doc. I state the premise and what needs to be achieved at the end. I then create what characters might be met in the process of the game, the locations, any needed dialogue and what needs to be done to achieve certain things. I use that as my starting base and as I develop that DD shifts and changes from there.

  • You can make an instance variable that hold if its the selected object when you do the 'not touching ' but to also look for an instance whose instance variable is set to true. So is not touching and object instance variable equal true do this.

  • Was all your games published with C2?

  • For personal use like ScrotieFlapWack said you can go here http://www.spriters-resource.com/ these are technically copywritten material but if you don't intend to use for financial gain don't see the harm in playing with it. Also there is http://www.Opengameart.org
