• Hey all, been away for some time now in 3D land.

I too have been looking forward to what C3 may bring, and eagerly followed the links in my emails.

I would have to say that although I can see where Scirra are coming from with the pricing of C3, I also have to be a realist, so with my web host subscription, my adobe subscription, and a few others, another subscription - especially that expensive - is out of my price range.

Personally I don't want you to host anything, all I want is a tool, and if I make a game that is worth selling I can just put it in the appropriate store.

I have a business licence for C2, so I gather that gives me a twelve months of C3 for free (I think - which is awesome - thanks ) So hopefully I can use it to make something special and sell it to the masses. Well at least a 200 hundred of them to pay the C3 sub lol.

Also if it is still at the mercy of other third parties, like the likes of Google, then I am sceptical about whether it is worth the time investment.

However, best of luck with C3 Scirra.

Michael....

• michael, it seems to work fine full screen to me. Not sure what running the deployment package is? I'm not using in game purchase so I can't tell about that.

paula22, interesting. When I run the game via vs there is no option to go fullscreen at all, I can max the window but there is no resize arrow to tell it to go full screen, so I get the title bar and task bar.

As for the package: When you create your app package, you get the option to build the packages to upload to the store. If you select 'No' it builds debug packages and places them in a folder location of choice. That folder contains an Add-AppDevPackage file. So you can right click the file and choose 'run with powershell', and it installs the package (also called side-loading). Just another way to test it out without any vs overhead before uploading to the store.

• paula22, glad you got it working.

Do you have any of the issues I described in my last post?

Thanks...

• paula22, good luck with the install.

If you have old hardware you may have issues.

On my machine - 64 bit - (built about 6 months ago) Windows 10 Pro is rock solid.

On my wifes machine - 32 bit - (which is my former dev machine) windows 10 Home is always locking up. Been putting up with it for a few weeks but finally did a roll back to 8.1 this morning - runs sweet as now!

So hopefully you get good results....

• paula22, ah, OK.. you might want to tag Ashley about that then...

• paula22,

Are you using Windows 10? Windows 10 Universal Apps won't work on previous versions.

• michael

Did you solve the complete issue with publishing to the store or did you get as far as I did?

Have not tried release to store yet, wanted to fine tune for the Windows10 Universal App release.

Managed to build and run in vs but still having several issues:

Can't run app via VS in full screen

I wonder if this is still using Edge (which doesn't have full screen option) to run the app.

Can't run Deployment Package

When I build a deployment package for testing, and then install the app via App-AddDevPackage the install occurs without any issue, but there is no App launch icon to be found in the start menu.

In game purchase doesn't work now

Have not looked at this in real detail yet, but the project I am testing has already been released on Windows 8/8.1 - Just doen't work the same when built for VS2015.

Bit short on time to look at all these new unexpected issues at present...

• You can also install the build files required by VS, by going to Control Panel/Uninstall a program, select MVSC 2015 and choose Change. Then use the VS window to enable the Windows 10 Universal Apps tools required.

I also found you need to have an ID included in C2 properties.

Issues that I still have are:

Can't run app via VS in full screen.

I wonder if this is still using Edge (which doesn't have full screen option) to run the app.

Can't run Deployment Package

When I build a deployment package for testing, and then install the app via App-AddDevPackage the install occurs without any issue, but there is no App launch icon to be found in the start menu.

I will report back if I have any success in these areas.

lol - I guess this is why MS don't build cars!

• Hi Ashley

That's a good point - you can only build Windows 10 Store apps with Windows 10. If you have Windows 8.1 I don't think you can build Windows 10 apps. That's a limitation in Visual Studio itself.

From Microsoft VS2015 download page:

"Provides the core tools for building compelling, innovative apps for Universal Windows Platform. Windows 10 is required."

With regard to project ID, do you mean in C2?

I will check it out in the morning....

Added an ID in C2 and all works now, (never needed this before, probably required by Window Phone i guess).

However still wondering about the lack of About, Support, and Privacey pages.

Been out of the windows app loop for a while, so will go do some checking. Any info would be appreciated...

Thanks...

• michael - are you on Windows 10 or Windows 8.1? I think VS2015 requires Windows 10 to be able to make Windows 10 apps (not too surprising there). Also the XML validation thing looks like maybe you just need to type in an ID in project properties? If so then the editor needs to prompt for that.

Ashley, thanks for reply. Yes I am running Windows 10 Pro.

With regard to project ID, do you mean in C2?

I will check it out in the morning....

• Hello Ashley, having problems with this myself.

The project loads fine in VS2015, but I can't edit the manifest or run the project in VS.

(Please note: the windows universal app packages are installed in VS)

Here is what I am seeing:

Try to load the manifest to edit it:

This error is displayed on screen:

If I try to run the project this error is displayed at bottom of screen"

Error	APPX0501	Validation error. error C00CE169: App manifest validation error: The app manifest must be valid as per schema: Line 24, Column 18, Reason: '' violates minLength constraint of '1'. The attribute 'Id' with value '' failed to parse.	Mbv2test	I:\Games_2D\Games\MBV3\Release Build\bin\Debug\AppxManifest.xml	1[/code:tshv251y]

Also C2 does not create the html files for About, Support, or Privacy pages.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks
• Yes, this is happening here also.

Capx is not required, to reproduce just build a blank project. There are also files missing for About, Support, and Privacy pages.

• Try Construct 3

• I've done a bunch of testing in Edge and everything worked great. I've not run in to any problems yet.

Hi Ashley, for me any project, even a blank one fail to load. After about 30 seconds Edge displays a page that says 'localhost 50000 can't be reached right now' or something similar.

IE runs fine though.

• Yeah, I would think MS wants everyone to move to 10, so I doubt that Edge will be available for any previous flavour of Win.
