All they need to do is drop the being locked out of your project after twelve month and it would be fine.

I mentioned somewhere else on these forums that I have a suite of components for UI dev in VS which is a twelve month sub type system. But if you don't renew the sub you can't get updates, additions. or bug fixes - you do however get to keep and use the components forever after that. Additionally you can renew your sub at any time you want - even years later - at a reduced price.

I can renew it now if I want, although I haven't done so for nearly two years, because there is nothing new added that I need.

This way you are not milking them by expecting never ending work done to the tools, and they are not milking you by expecting you to keep paying to use the tools.

    Much fairer system I think.

  • C2 had lots of things added over it's life time, that were still in need of refinement, but never got it - pay a sub for half-baked additions?

Chrome is always adding little bugs here and there that eventually may get fixed but definitely not when you need it to be fixed - pay a sub to rely on Chrome?

Most hobbyists hate to rent tools - subs a good idea?

The way C3 is being marketed - nothing jumping out as a must have yet. From the current blogs I get the feeling that C3 is just C2 ported to a browser with a few teaks that should have been added to C2 anyway.

So not wowed at all - I thinks it would be better to just tell us everything there is to know about this new tool, instead of playing this weird slow leak game.

But anyway best of luck to Scirra.

  • OS independency (writing with mobile phone. Short answer^^)

well, you don't need a browser for that - there are much better ways that trusting another third party.

Developing on a smart phone - really - how big is your smart phone - lol

  • I would say you can definitely trust Scirra that is for sure.

But any third party cannot be trusted including google\chrome - that is where any letdowns will come from.

You are still supporting Scirra (the great tool builder^^) that now, with this model, can work faster, better and more efficient. Win for you ^^

More features and bug fixes when you get back from holiday ^^

Yeah I just mentioned that because some one thought you could just pay for a month then stop for a month etc.

But don't forget chrome is not efficient - it should be added to the virus detection list - lol

Come on people give it up they don't give a #$& about what you think so please stop talking about payment just piss me off so please stop talking about payment

Lol - yeah I guess it is a bit like flogging a dead horse.

But then again if you payed once for a year of upgrades you would have to stick with the latest version you downloaded after service expire and not expect any upgrades or bug fixes while you're not paying.

That is exactly what people would like - it is also how a sub should work.

Monthly subs usually just mean pay-by-the-month, but you are locked into it for twelve months - which means you can't just opt out for a month, you still pay for the month that you go on vacation.

I'm absolutely certain they've clarified that the ability to use the program ceases if and when your subscription expires.

    Tom said:

    • You can continue to collect revenues from published games if your subscription ends, that's fine
    • You will not be able to edit or publish games if your subscription has expired, but you can open in read only

I am in the hate subs camp too, but would happily pay more than the yearly sub - I know, weird, but subs are just that loathsome.

However I doubt it is sensible to be making the editor reliant on a third-party, especially chrome - that is super risky, rely on google lol.

As far as support the developers - yes no problem there at all, but consider:

Give all of your current user base an editor (that doesn't rely on chrome) for just:

    • $1 for ever = $3,275,900 that should feed them dinner for a while
    • $1 per month = $39,310,800 should be able to afford sweets now, likely every day!
    • $8 per month (or what ever the current sub rate is) = 375, 686, 400 - now we're talking ( yes I know that they all won't jump on board - but they would for point 2)

But I doubt C2 in a browser will be that good....

  • I have always put the license file in the C2 root folder, didn't know you could tell it to find it somewhere else.

Does it help if you do that?
