What I'd really like to know, if not already discussed. Is Construct 2 going to be retired once it hits a certain build with no more support or are Construct 2 and 3 going to be updated side by side?

As far as I know it will be updated, but no new features can be expected.

  • Try Construct 3

  • On topic, I think rexrainbow should setup a Patreon page and we could rain some bucks on him.

It's a great idea. If he's into this.

  • Artpunk Thank you for handling the communication with Kong.

  • In the end we are not asking Ashley and co to make crazy game specific plugins. We are asking for working basics from A to Z and IAP/ IAD are the most basic of all.

Sell them for $10 each if needed and hire a junior developer to keep them up to date but enough with the stubbornness. The community is asking for it so perhaps it's time to listen.

While I say that the engine should include working IAD/IAP plugins and support for major platforms (like we have now), I'd be gladly giving Scirra 10$ for platform specific up-to-date plugins each (like Kongregate, etc..). But again, it's none of my business how Scirra manages it's company/products.

  • Are we forced to close this or are we allowed to go on and only share the plugin + "exporter" with people that actually own a license?

But how do we do that? How can we be sure that no free-edition user can download it?

  • Why would we allow people to advertise ways to circumvent the free edition restrictions? That breaks our whole business model.

That is true. Hm... I have a quick idea (could be a bad one): For C3 you could make some restrictions to the plugin system to limit what plugins could work with the free version, so the plugin developers can set these up for themselves. If you already have to filter out such plugins that goes around the license restrictions, you could also check that whether the developer set up the restriction right or not. That way the business model shouldn't be damaged and users could experiment and test methods like Electron.

  • Please note that NW.js is only available with a license and any discussion of ways to circumvent the license restriction is not allowed, even if it is possible.

So, are you saying that Scirra won't allow armaldio to publish the Electron plugin? Or I misunderstood something?

  • He's already stated his position. ...

Oh, I don't know how I overlooked that. Thank you.

I'm really interested what answer you'll get from Kongregate.

  • I think it's good that Scirra is focusing on making a good tool for making games, instead of making plugins for monetization. Even the slogan on their front page DOESN'T say. "Monetize Games EASILY". Although it's easy to get hold of SDK's, and with a little bit of knowhow make your own plugins, i think it's good if there's options by the devs of those platforms. ...

I agree. However if they could find resources to keep the official plugins updated, I'd be overjoyed. It might also earn more users for the engine.

  • Congratulations It's always good to see successful games made with C2.

  • I asked some questions about making an isometric game a few months back. Maybe it will be useful to you:

  • I think the developers were clear about that they want this plugin updated. Ashley , what's your take on this? Can we expect it?

  • This thread also worth a look:

He did actually respond to a ton of things in this topic and you can find one of his recent responses just 1-2 pages back.

C3 news also have been posted here, nothing big but at least a confirmation that it's still being developed.

True, true. It's a long topic, but it's worth the read.
