  • A couple more tips:

If you can get away with using art that has the effect applied to it before you import it into Construct, then do it. For example, if you have a background image that is always blurry, then blur it in Photoshop before you import it. There is no sense in using a blur shader for that.

Of course, if you want to be able to turn the blur on and off at runtime for whatever reason then there's no getting around it, but generally speaking if the effect you need is always on, try to find a way to create it with assets rather than shaders.

Also, keep your shader use to a minimum. A lot of people go overboard with shaders when they first start using them, and for the most part they're not really necessary. Shaders are like strong spices... a little dash here or there can make a big difference in how your game looks. But use them sparingly or you will have a huge mess on your hands.

  • It looks like the changes you made are working great. Nobody's had to ban a bot for two days now! Last week I had to ban something like eleven of them in one day.

    This is awesome

  • Just keep in mind that delta time has it's limitations too... if the player's computer suffers a loss of framerate, then your object will be moving more space per tick than normal. If the framerate drops too low, a fast moving object might skip past an object it is supposed to collide with!

For the most part this isn't a problem unless you're trying to collide very small or skinny objects that are moving fast. Just something to keep in mind when you're doing your collision events.

I'm not saying it's a trade-off though... you should ALWAYS use delta time for any time-based operations like movement. But if you need pixel-perfect collision with small, fast objects you'll probably have to code some custom collision checking routines.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • How do you correctly link a button to a regular event?

I thought this would be a really simple task but after trying to link it with a simple event to show a hidden object it was not working. I tried a load of options also yet nothing worked.

Also do you plan to make documentation/help for your object?

It's v0.02a man... he's just started working on this. Give it time

Okay, I can take a hint. Thread title changed! But this is the last time.

  • We were being overrun by spambots, and the hard work of the mods has saved most of you from seeing them (thanks guys). I've switched the signup captcha to PeopleSign which is an image matching captcha instead of "read the really garbled text" - hopefully this will defeat the march of the spambots.

Oh my god, thank you. My banhammer is almost worn down to a stump.
