  • The .cap crashes here when I run it as well. And yeah, everything is unzipped properly. Are you sure you didn't mix up the runtime build? Ash does that all the time

    The .exe file works though.

  • This is awesome. Seeing as how the Windows control widgets are really finicky, Construct could definitely use something like this.

How skinable do you plan to make this? I noticed some rather complex looking GUI setups in the screenshots on the mygui page. Like this one here: http://info.wotgame.ru/files/screens/original/70.jpg

    Edit:

Hmm, I tried downloading the .zip twice and both times it said the file was corrupted

    Edit 2:

Never mind, for some reason it took four tries to actually download the whole file from sourceforge. I got it now.

  • Yeah, I just had a hell of a time with this actually. I switched back to Firefox after using Chrome for a while and I couldn't log in for like, ever. I finally got it sorted out though.

Also, I hit the "I forgot my password" thing twice and I still haven't received an email... just a heads up.

  • Thanks for all the upbeat support, everyone. I'm sure the developers appreciate it.

  • It's not a very closed beta if you're posting it on a public forum

Anyway, the art and music are pretty good. The game itself was a little too slow and repetitive for me though. And vague. What does screaming do? What's the motivation for the main character? What benefit does exploring a large space have when there is nothing to see but more platforms? What is the challenge?

Anyway, I kind of got... bored. I'm sorry. I realize it's supposed to be an art-game kind of game with a message and such, but maybe being a tiny little bit less vague about goals would help. And I know I'm probably missing the point to this but I think a game with a message can still be challenging and fun to play.

It looks really nice though, I wish you luck at IGF.

Oh, also it seems that a lot of your text boxes are cutting off the words and putting your periods at the beginnings of new lines and such:

This is happening all over the place for me. Using Win7x64. You might want to consider using the SpriteFont addon.

  • i can't beat the first boss

  • He still comes around. He's a pretty busy guy though.

Anyway, from what I recall of the alpha version of the tile plugin he made, it was only about half finished and really buggy. You couldn't even import tile sheets yet, I don't think. It just had some random Jazz Jackrabbit tiles as the default tile sheet. You could draw maps with the mouse like you said, and it had some auto-collision layer stuff already. I believe he meant to be able to assign different properties to tiles and such but like I said it was never finished. If he's not interested in continuing it, maybe he could be convinced to release the source so someone else can. It never hurts to ask, anyway.

  • You might try begging David to finish the tile object plugin he started. Don't know where that'd get you though.

  • awwww what a cute thing!

what animal is this? it looks like some kind of wolf-variation but then again - it has vertical pupils.

That's Gmork for chrissake! Now go watch The Neverending Story before I punch you. Bah, kids these days have no respect for the classics.

Also moving the thread, it belongs in OT.

  • Thanks that worked!!

I knew it was something as simple as that.

Just one more question: Is it possible to pick one instance when two instances of the same object collide

It is possible to do this by assigning a family or an attribute to your object.

For instance, if you have enemies that you want to bounce off of each other, you can put them in the Enemy family. Then your collision condition would look like this:

+ EnemySprite: On collision with Enemy (family)
        -> EnemySprite: Do bouncing actions
    [/code:ktxsh2en]

You can also do that with attributes, but it's more limited in scope.

A list of common, useful tutorials on basic subjects will go here. If you want your tut included in the list, PM me and I'll consider it.

(If it doesn't get added, don't take it personally, I want to keep this list light and concise)

For a more detailed list covering multiple topics, check out this thread by Jamesx:

  • Discuss what topics you'd like to see covered here.

    Some guidelines:

    • Be sure to browse through the Tutorials forum first... what you need might already exist!

    • Try to be as specific as possible... in other words don't just say "I want an RPG tutorial." What do you need specifically? A battle system? A dialogue system? Etc. You're more likely to get someone willing to tutor you on a small portion of a game mechanic than to get a full-fledged game... especially one as complex as an RPG.

    • Let's keep lazy answers to requests out of the thread, please. If someone asks for an example, don't reply with "oh you can just do that with ______ " and leave it at that. Make an example, or post a link to an existing example. Otherwise please refrain from replying at all.

    • This is not a substitute for the Help/Tech forum. Don't ask for a tutorial simply because you're stuck on a technical issue. Make a Help/Tech thread instead. Full tutorials should be reserved for overall techniques and examples of more complex game logic, not necessarily the workings of individual objects. There might be exceptions of course, but let's leave this as a general rule.

    • You may request a non-Construct tutorial if you need one, such as for Photoshop, sprite art, making music or sound effects, etc. In this case, lazy answers are allowed! Several examples of such tutorials are available on the web, so it's okay to post links to those in reply to such requests. Someone may know of some good ones out there. Of course, you could always make your own such tut and post it in this forum too...

    • Please keep in mind that tutorials can be a bit hard and time consuming to write! If your request doesn't get made it's probably nothing personal.

  • You do not have permission to view this post

  • *sigh*

Fine. I merged them into one thread. Is that satisfactory?

  • I find it rather funny but as long as the YC doesn't get full of topics like this
