    If you haven't noticed, we don't have an off-topic forum. We haven't needed one. There aren't enough of these kinds of threads to warrant one.

    So yes, there's nothing wrong with posting the occasional joke thread here or wherever, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. If it does, then we'll deal with it. But so far the Construct forums are a pretty far cry from being mistaken for 4chan. It's not like a joke thread here or there is going to somehow ruin the forums.

    This thread is remaining because it's nothing but harmless fun. If it gets out of hand, we will deal with it. There is no need for backseat moderation. If you feel a thread is in poor taste or somehow inappropriate, I urge you to use the report button instead of trying to stir up drama in a thread in which other people are obviously enjoying themselves.

    In other words, why are you trying to be so grumpy in a joke thread? And why are you making me respond to this crap? Lighten up. Not every thread on the forum has to be deadly serious.

    Why, it's Lesson 6 of the newly remade tutorial!

    And that's as far as I've gotten, I'm afraid. I just picked up where I left off a couple of days ago. There have been some problems with working on these:

    1. There were some bugs in the platform behavior with collision masks and falling through moving platforms that were keeping me from continuing.

    2. I've been really lazy.

    After testing things out the other day it seems that the platform bugs have been addressed (thanks, David! ). Likely they were fixed some time ago, but as you may have noticed I was gone for a while and I hadn't been keeping up properly with the changelog.

    As for the laziness, part of that is just inherent in my nature, but more than a bit of it was due to the fact that I was really tired of working on these tutorials. Not only are they kind of a pain to make when I'd rather be doing something else, but changes in Construct have forced me to rewrite the tutorials a few times. I got sick of the stupid tutorials! There, I said it.

    Now that I've had a nice long break, I'm going back to continue work on these. I won't be releasing the tutorial until it's completed and I can post the whole thing at once. I have no idea when that will be, but hopefully not too long.

    For now, I'm going to go ahead and close this thread. It's out of date, full of obsolete info, and for the past two hundred pages it's mainly just people asking "when will it be done?" anyway. I will start a new thread for the remade tuts when I'm finished.

    In short, I am still working on these. I haven't given up. They will be done, eventually.

    I'm sorry that you seem to be getting negative reactions from your original post. However, there is a right way and a wrong way to ask for help. When I'm finished writing this post, I will close this thread and offer you an opportunity to start again.

    I think the main problem was that you got off on the wrong foot with this thread. Your original post was a bit dramatic and negative. It should therefore come as no surprise that people are responding to it in a dramatic and negative way.

    That said, everyone else should be doing their best not to react in a dramatic and negative way. Some have done so, and I thank those members. Others have been attempting to give encouragement, telling you to not give up. Though it may not be what you're asking for, it's at least a positive sentiment, and I thank them as well.

    Now, how to rectify the situation:

    If you want help with a specific task, such as creating a save system for your game, then the best way to go about it would be to create a Help/Tech thread stating clearly what you want to do and how you have tried to accomplish it. Stick to the facts. Posting a failed .cap showing what work you attempted is always a good idea, it will give others a basis to assist you from.

    If instead what you are looking for is a team member to help with your project, then you need to show your work. All of it. Create a project thread and post your story outline, character sketches, sprites and tiles, screenshots, mockups, demos, music, etc. You can keep certain details secret so as not to spoil things, but there should still be a lot you can show. Tell us how it's going and where you want it to go. Tell us what you need. Make us interested. If people are interested in your project then it will be much more likely that someone will volunteer to help.

    What not to do:

    Don't play the victim. If you act like a victim then people will treat you like a victim. Saying things like "I give up, I'm at the end of my rope, this was my last hope" and whatnot is not such a good idea. You may be discouraged about the progress of your game (and it's okay to let people know that you're discouraged!), but try to keep from being overly dramatic and emotional about it. People will be much more likely to help you out or team up with you if you show you have a clear head and a definite goal that you are dedicated to. Change your attitude, change your approach. You can catch more flies with honey, and all that.

    So. You probably didn't want to hear any of that either. That's okay. I'm more interested in giving people what they need as opposed to what they want. That's how I try to help. I hope that none of this was taken as rude or offensive because it certainly wasn't meant that way. I'm just trying to keep things real.

    Now, go ahead and repost your thread. Either a Help/Tech thread asking about how to make a save system, or a Your Creations project thread advertising for a team member. Or hell, why not both? And try not to get too discouraged, if you keep at it then you'll get there eventually.

  • Yeah, it seems to me that if you make a game with GM, then you own it. If you own it you should be able to do what you want with it. That includes selling it where and how you want. If that means buying YYG's official iOS exporter to get it onto iPhone, fine. If that means using a free program that does the same thing, that's fine too.

    As long as that free program doesn't contain or rely upon any code stolen from YYG then there shouldn't be any problem at all.

    And since I'm too lazy to check for myself, and since there seems to be some confusion over the matter, can anyone confirm if this 3rd party program does or does not contain or rely upon code stolen from YYG? TIA. TTFN.

    (I guess it's kind of a moot point if the team has stopped working on it but whatever.)
