  • Wrote up a post-mortem.

    Read it here.

  • 32 here. Just got in to game dev in the past year (and got in to C2 in the past couple of months!).

If I was in my early-20's right now, I think I still wouldn't be able to do the work that I do currently. I just didn't have any determination or ambition then. Was more interested in hanging with friends and socializing. Around my mid-20's I switched careers and realized that if you work hard and smart enough, and have just a bit of talent, that you can accomplish shit. Will it be great or amazing? Maybe. But if it isn't, you at least finished something which most people can't even do.

So I'm totally cool with being in my 30's and getting in to game dev. I know how to block time to work. I know how to manage large projects and finish them. I know how to work through "the wall" of any project. These are skills I've picked up over the years in doing multiple creative efforts.

  • This is my first LDJam and first completed game. Play it here.

How to play: Left and right arrows to move. Up to hide in a closet. Down to exit closet. Shift to ooze an astronaut when you're close enough (blob in the upper left will turn green).

I'll be writing a post-mortem later and will be sure to link to that.

  • Play here.

You're a giant pile of green ooze. What better to do than melt down some astronauts!

Left and right move. Shift oozes an astronaut when you're close enough (meter in up left will turn green). Up hides in a closet and down exits closet.

This is my first Ludum Dare jam AND my first completed game!

  • I think this is a great demonstration of some devs who know how to work with a tool and properly utilize it.

Good job and awesome game guys!

  • Looks good! I'll definitely try the demo.

  • Got the opening cutscene along with some level design done today. No big hangups; just slowly learning the quickest and most efficient way to do things.

Taking a break this weekend since I'll be participating in my first Ludum Dare Jam! I'll be sure to post whatever I finish.

  • Everything felt good to me except those boulders. Being below them and on a slope, I feel like I couldn't jump high enough to get over them.

  • Does the health go to -240,180,60? Like, does it go in to the negatives?

  • Smileh Thanks!

In regards to the photo you're referring to: A buddy of mine is helping me out with the art and he designed the tiles in photoshop. He sent me that picture where he did a mock-up of a level to make sure all of the tiles worked well together.

When placing tiles in C2, I use a tilemap along with the tilemap object and tool.

  • Cryptwalker - Ha! I was planning on reworking the main character at some point anyways. Feels a bit thin.

  • I'll be doing it! Already set aside the weekend and everything. Since it's my first, I'll be trying the Jam.

  • Definitely a game I would play. Thanks for sharing your progress!

  • I agree with Release it now. I personally don't have an opportunity to use it right now, but I'm sure others would!

  • Rough dialogue system in place. It'll work for the demo. Ended up not using the XML setup simply because I feel it is still a bit over my head. Will definitely spend some more time with it in the future, but for now this works. Especially when I'm planning on less than 20 lines of dialogue for the demo.

    Up next: health bar!
