  • Agree with you that the left one has more charm. However I also believe that it depends on how you animate either one.

  • Hello, I'm bc!

As a graphic designer, chiptune musician, and fan of retro video games (and current ones), I figured it was time I tried making a game or two.

So I started waking up at 6am, bought Jayjay 's book, and got to work. I'm enjoying myself so far.

    Software:

    • Construct Classic
    • Pyxel Edit (art)
    • LSDJ (music/sfx)
    • Bfxr (quick sfx)
  • Scirra has a blog post about this. Look for "Not wasting your memory".

I'd post the link but I'm not at 300 rep yet

  • ryanrybot That shift (from familiar to uncanny) is always welcome by me. I feel a lot of my favorite games / tv shows / books do that. Just having that uncanny setting sets up a feeling of unease / wonder / danger which is crucial for later levels.

  • Your art is crazy stylized. I love it! I kind of reminds me of those 90's point and click games that I loved. Peeped your teaser video and it definitely has an interesting feel to it. I like the grainy feel to everything too. Definitely sets the mood.

  • RayKi and blurtsmum Thanks!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Ugh so good! Blaster Master is one of my all-time favorite games and I love the direction you're taking. Like the name you're using too since the Western story for the NES game was so silly.

Subbed to this topic to keep an eye on it. Great job!

  • Two new concepts of our work!

    Please take a look!

This game will be released for PC, and we are using C2 to develop.

    Thanks!!

Love it! Are you going for a similar look/feel for the in-game graphics?

  • Just picked up Construct last week and have been loving it so far. I come from the creative side of things (graphic designer by trade) so I'm loving the way it all works.

Here's a crummy gif of what I've got so far. Really basic but just trying to get the mechanisms I'd like to use. No bullet events set up yet; that's on dock for this week.

Also working my way through JayJay's book (I'm using CC) and it is incredibly helpful. Dude also peeped my .cap file and fixed a collision error I was having and added some solid notation. Stoked that the community can be that supportive.

  • Hey I'm really digging this! Your animations are spot on.

Quick question: how do you create your gifs?

  • Solved! with the help of JayJay

  • Here is an image of the collision detection.

When this runs, and a right collision is detected, everything is fine. Its when an enemy has a left collision. It triggers all enemys to turn around regardless if they've collided or not.

  • Hello!

EDIT: Can't post a URL to my .cap yet due to low rep / new to board. Maybe I could PM it to anyone that could help?

So my issue is that all of my enemy objects will react to any single collision. If one collides with something, the others will react and turn around, change the animation, etc.

I made copies of the enemys by ctrl + click and dragging them out. I realize that may be the problem, however I don't know how to fix it.

Would I just have to create a new object for each enemy?
