  • Is the chat room still up? I cannot seem to find the link, and never bookmarked it. Anyone have a link?

  • Hi all!

Say, I was wondering if someone could help me? I'm creating a little game/birthday card for my son's birthday. He is an adult now, but I'm using art he created as a child. My Construct skills are not really all that great. Its a platform game where the player has to grab matches and light fireworks corresponding to the matches color. I've got most of the mechanics worked out, but I still have a lot to do to finish up the layout, and add more sounds, clean up the event sheet etc. etc.

The problem I would like to solve (I only have a few days left) involves an invisible sprite I have pinned to the character. I had so much trouble getting the match to pin correctly to the character, that I simply added an anim of the character with a lit match right into the characters animation choices. I thought I would use an invisible sprite on his hand for the collisions. The problem is that I've set it up so depending on if the left or right arrow is pressed he faces that direction. When I do this however it does not flip the collision square. Is there a way to designate where a pin is pinned depending on which animation is playing?

    UPDATE

Nevermind,,,, took a couple of hours, but I figured out a work around.

Thanks to a couple of suggestions from the kind folks in the Chat room.

  • Thanks for the input Ash!

That was why I thought it would be nice to include a word like boolean. We get people with some programming background, and probably many who tried programming and gave up. So if they look for something in Construct that functions like a boolean, then they can find the Construct 2 equivalent.

  • Arima,

That sounds awesome. Now I know its possible.

  • I can start a topic and thread, but how do you make it editable by everyone? So everything can be within one post.

  • aindovin

That is what I was hoping for, but I'm not really sure how to keep it all on one page, like the "how do I" section is layed out.

  • Well Shinkan,

Perhaps you did not mean to be rude, but it did sound that way.

"Everything is in the manual" sounds arrogant (whether or not you meant it), perhaps I would not have reacted so quickly if you had said something like... "you can find it here in the manual" or something similar. I'm not calling YOU rude, I just think the answer sounded rude.

  • Try Construct 3

I think it should encompass just about every term within construct, as well as other programming terms that may have similar meanings yet different translations. When I do a site search for something, say like "boolean", a site search currently links to every thread with the word "boolean" in it. I would like quicker access to a what it ACTUALLY means and what it does. It would also be cool if these dictionary topics could contain links where users may wish to post a link to capx showing how the term can be used. Yes there may be various descriptions throughout the website, but not everyone has the time to go on a wild goose chase.

  • I would love to see a glossary / dictionary of terms used in construct on this site. All inclusive, and alphabetized. I think it would benefit a bunch of folks. Also the "How do I" section is OK with all the links, but the time it takes to read through every forum post on a thread to find a specific answer is very frustrating.

I'm not really asking Ash or Tom to do it, but perhaps we can set up one collectively.

  • Shinkan...REALLY!!???

    "Everything is in the manual"

These types of responses are uncalled for and rude. New users to construct may not be familiar with different function terms that construct uses. Reading the manual will not help in every situation. Not only that, we share these forums with users from different language backgrounds, and terminology can become askew. If you can't simply answer a question... than don't. There have been many times when I have searched everywhere throughout this site for a for answers and only ended up lost and even more confused. If you insist that someone references the manual, then how about linking to the section in the manual or a specific place where the answer may lie. Sometimes I'm baffled by the arrogance of some of the forum users.

  • Hi Zsangerous!

Perhaps the math is the same everywhere, but the language may differ for people. I had a visit from my son who is a 3D artist, programmer, and special effects director. I asked him what lerp was and he did not know what the heck I was talking about. When I showed it to him he said "Aha!... linear interpolation". He knew the function, yet by a different name. I learned basic math in the 60's, fast forward 50 years and try to help a youngster with division etc. and so much has changed in the way they teach it! I'm a person who has a ton of difficulty until I can visualize in my mind what is really happening with the equation. I would love to see a great math tute on this site that explains the formulas, along with a capx that can be manipulated for learning purposes. If you are like me Zsangerious, you could probably recreate with great precision the colors and pattern of a piece of fabric or something that you have not set eyes on for years (or in my case decades). Yet it is difficult to remember math equations not visualized. I can totally visualize the basic math, and can balance my checkbook in my head. Yet I don't seem to understand things that come second nature to the left brained masses.

  • Just scare them away perhaps.

  • Hi Alexey!

I had my hands full and did not try to open your capx until this morning. I could not open the file because it had a plugin that I guess my version not compatible with.

I'll make sure I have the latest version.

I appreciate every ones help. SOMEDAY I WILL ARRAY!
