  • Thanks, Deadeye! Enemy behavior at close range is very helpful.

  • Lesson 99, constructing an accurate simulation of the large hadron collider to simulate earth being envelloped by a space-time rip

    March 3rd, 2009

There has been a major overhaul to ALL the lessons in the Platform School series. If you downloaded any of these lessons on or before March 3rd, please re-download them, as they all contain new information and updates.

    UPDATE!!!

All the links in the first post have been updated, so grab the new versions there.

    Among the changes:

    • All lessons now use Point sampling, and the descriptions for Point and Linear sampling have been updated. The scrolling events have been changed as well.
    • The Animation section and events have been reworked to be more efficient and concise, and a lot of old, outdated information on the topic has been updated. descriptive, and comments and events are now more clean and neat.
    • Several minor changes to things like moving platforms and Doomba activation, and events and comments in general are more tidy.

Sorry for any inconvenience, but keep in mind that this will likely happen again

  • Wow, very nice tutorial, it'll teach me a lot, thanks.

  • The next lesson is ready already!

It's actually pretty simple, as far as lessons go. There's not much here that's new. The method I used for jumping on heads is one that I think is pretty efficient, but that's up for debate. If you have any feedback, feel free to share

In other news, a couple small errors in Lesson 8 were pointed out to me... a typo and a texture out of alignment. I'll leave them for now, but in the future if I have to redo that lesson they'll be fixed then Thanks to Mipey and procrastinator for helping out with the proof reading

  • Thanks buddy! Overall, these tutorials are very professional and helpful for new Constructers.

(And you used the method I would've used for killing the enemies)

  • Fantastic tips for dealing with enemies. Enemy "types" will be especially useful. Can't wait to see'em fight back - Thanks again!

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

I'd even say the should be included into the final version of Construct - and with every update, you'd get the updated lessons. This is one of the best ways to learn the tool, anyway.

Yeah, that would be a really great idea. We definitely need to work on the documentation, although according to my knowledge, that's already being pushed very heavily so kudos to everyone!

  • Hi! Thank you for this great tutorial!

But I have a question about ladders in the game.

I've set all same conditions and actions as your. But there are two problems:

    1. When the Player on the Ladder, his animation always paused! Even I press "down" and "up" keys - climbing animation doesn't work. But! If I press "left/right" controls - he begin climbing.. What is it? I checked all conditions twice, but can't find the problem.

    2. Problem two. Player climbing the ladder and when he near top platform (solid), he doesn't climb on it! Hom to make that object doesn't fall through solid platform, but if he jumps or climbs from the bottom, he lands on it?

    Help me, pleeease

    Thanks.

p.s. sorry, I don't speak English very well

Don't make the platform Solid. Check the "Platform" attribute instead.

As for the climbing animation, I recommend you post a thread in Help/Tech. Someone will probably have to look at your.cap to see what is going wrong.

  • deadeye,

I've checked "Platform" and it really works. Thank you!

  • Why hello!

I've been immensely enjoying your Platform School from the shadows, but have decided to join in the forum fun to point out that there's something wrong with your file host, as all the links to the episodes currently lead to some crazy file upload screen with no mention of the file. Or is it just me? Or is it some intermittent problem? Whatever it is, I hope I can stomp some Goom-- i mean Doombas soon!

  • *sigh*

Looks like Will Host For Food is currently messing around with their site again. It'll probably be fixed shortly.

In the meantime you can get all the tutorial files from the wiki page:

    http://apps.sourceforge.net/mediawiki/c ... =Tutorials

And I guess I should just find a better file host. WHFF is the most hassle-free host I've found, but they're always going down or doing some weird update that breaks things . Oh, well...

  • WHFF is horrible. It deleted the uploads like 3 times.

    Use upload.namelezz.net
