  • After a few days of slow development, creating models etc etc I've deiceded to show you guys what I've come up with thus far. It is by no means even close to being finished, but this demo does show the basic concept of the game and gives a good idea of how the game will turn out.

Note that nothing in this demo is finalized and I may change it depending on how other parts of the game develope. One thing that I'm definatly not keeping is the health bar, I just needed a sprite with 8 frames to set up my health system.

The level does end, that position is where I intend to put in a boss fight (Each level will end with one, only about 30 seconds of the level is really made properly)

This is my first game, and also my first time using things like sketchup, photoshop and Illustrator so the quality is currently not as I'd like it, but its a start.

    Controls:

F to fire, rest is simple

If you find any bugs or have any criticisms I'd love to hear them.

  • thats close to what I'm looking for, what I came up with was similer, unfortinatly that picture dosen't look right, without making the picture 3D, on one side. if what I've said makes sense....

    Thanks for the try though

I think if I plan on using my own models I'm going to have to keep it 2d for now? I'm not totaly sure if Im capible of making them 3d

If you wanna go 3D, you should check out CYBERMOTION 3D DESIGNER

    http://www.3d-designer.com/

Best program ive ever used !

or.......do a google search for sprite sheets......and maybe planes, jets etc.

If you dont have any luck and you really, really need 3d, get back to me and i will make them for you.

  • Other than drawing them in perspective, or importing a model, chrisbrobs example is about all you can do.

There is an fx (pattern) that will do that for you, if you want it on the fly.

But the bounding box will have to be bigger than the sprite, or the fx will need to be applied to a layer.

  • I've just messed with that 3D programme Chrisbrobs but its veryyyy unlikely I'm going to be able to create my plane, in this, just not capible of it at the moment, I'll learn to use it slowly but for now I'm going to keep it 2D.

And thanks very much for the offer to create it in 3d for me, however I want to keep everything In the game, created by me (however bad it may look, its my first game)

Its going to take a while but it'll be a nice learning process, I'll try and keep this post updated on how Its going from time to time.

  • You can also try SketchUp. I can't find an easier software to create 3D stuff.

    http://sketchup.google.com/intl/en/download/index.html

You can start by importing or drawing the flat shape of your plane. And then extrude each part, giving them different heights. Will be a bit squary on the edges, but you can change that afterwards.

Is there another link to that? Link seems dead.

  • You could just keep it the way it is and say that's the style-- make the backgrounds and all the enemies look like paper cut-outs or something.

  • Yeh I'm going to try sketchup, and if that fails, keep everything 2d for now, not exactly what I wanted, but its a start.

and deebee - Google 'CYBERMOTION 3D DESIGNER' you'll find it easily. gl

  • Try Construct 3

  • Well I tried sketch up, Went far better than I ever thought, not perfect. However it does work perfectly and any problems with the images, the sprite is too small for you to see, so you don't notice anything between the three images while playing a game

This is the model I used to create the template, its very basic, but did the job, Obviously never used sketchup before, so spent all day figuring it out.

Thanks for everyones help/suggestions, very usefull.

  • It looks good at that size, so it should look pretty seamless when scaled down.

(is it modeled after the F15, or the Mig 29?)

^This is actually a pretty cool idea.

  • (is it modeled after the F15, or the Mig 29?)

Its the F15, However due to me being awefull at sketchup, the shape isen't perfect.

newt - I did look into creating the game like this, and it bothered me, everything being so flat. especially the one sprite your always using, I understand thats the style but I guess its just not for me

  • you know you can import your 3D model in the construct with the 3d object and make an afterburner trail like this <img src="http://www.456fis.org/THE%20J-58%20ENGINE/J58_AfterburnerT%5B1%5D_small1.jpg">

    with the particles object
