Scirra kickstarter

  • So we all saw how awesome spriter was with kick starter what if Scirra did a kickstarter. I would personally add 100 dollars to fund.

The question is how effective would it be. We already get weekly updates which are awesome. So what would you guys want most?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • I would fund if it means they hire someone to do official plugins, while Ashley worked on the bigger features.

  • If this means getting Construct 2 up to speed to Construct Classic, I will gladly chip in some funds. However, I think if they want to do this, it's better to provide alternatives payment options for non-US users.

  • I don't think throwing money at it will help anything.

Just ask Lucid, its not the money, but getting it done right, that's the biggest pain.

  • Very true, but with money comes options. Different way to tackle the problems. One would be to hire a talented programmer to focus on certain much needed areas, while Ashley and Tom could focus on other critical areas. Money can buy time that could otherwise be more well spend.

  • Money ensures that people have the time to do it right, full time instead of nights and weekends and not just when tired from a full time job just to pay the bills.

Money is not just some nasty taboo motivator for the greedy, its what is necessary in a society with things like video game systems and computers for people to be able to focus on doing what they want to do, without worrying about what their children will be eating the next day.

Or, money could allow for a new person or people to focus on creating real exporters for Construct2 to other platforms. I'd contribute to something like that in a heartbeat....assuming I could spare the money. ;)

  • Kickstarter is great for a lot of things.

Im not sure it would help with the html5 part of C2.

That is to say the standard is constantly changing, and, breaking with the different browsers, as they implement things differently, badly, or not even at all.

Its a big waiting game at the moment, and that just doesn't work out in the money to time ratio.

  • I believe Kickstarter would be meaningless in the current time for Scirra, if Ashley currently focusing on improving HTML5, the support they currently receiving are from C2 purchaser, so what the dontation would be for if it's will goes for HTML5 ?

unless Scirra use kickstarter for additional exporters (EXE/Native IOS) or perhaps Construct2 editor (MAC/Linux) , than that would be a different story ;).

  • Would be good if they could hire more people to get the editor done faster, then maybe they'd have time to work on something proper like an OpenGL runtime (for mac/linux/win applications).

  • One thing that might help scirra is if they had an assistant to do the "dirty work" this way they could focus on the major parts to development.

One of the things that might be worth while is a Mac export. I know Scirra said in the past that they didn't want to do this but software for mac can be much more profitable. I know that if they did this it would give all of the other mac engines a run for their money.

  • I'm flattered that you're willing to put more money in to this. But isn't it a bit cheeky to ask people who have already paid for commercial software to voluntarily donate for further development? Isn't that what their license they already bought paid for? I think this would offend a lot of people.

FYI we aim to be supporting a Windows, Mac and Linux desktop runtime with Awesomium, which we're already testing.

It wouldn't offend me. But I guess there are always those trolls who get offended over everything. Personally, C2 is such a bargain. Other engines charge 2 times as much for less features.

Im talking about the editor being able to run on mac. Im not sure if that is what you mean.

  • I am with mammoth, I got C2 during the pre-release, and the price alone is a steal compared to many other software. I guess if there's a clear roadmap to the progress, and how non compulsory *additional funding* could help accelerate C2's progress achieve the roadmap, then why not?

  • It's not unheard of for a company to require additional funding while they are operating. Game Salad got 3 million from a VC a couple years after they started.

Businesses usually need money to "take it to the next level".

  • I would fund. Having native exporters would kick so much arse.
