  • I had an idea for using arrays to make custom screen sharing test using construct 2.

Would it be possible to fill a 640x480 array with RGB values? (RGB values for every point on screen) every 0.05 seconds?

For optimization purposes you probably only have to write to the array for those pixels that actually change, or even better the change is bigger than a certain value from what it was before.

For example: If one of the pixels on your screen change from White to black, you only write to the array for those coordinates. You take the RGB values of the Array coordinates that changed and send it AsJSON using multiplayer plugin or Photon Cloud? The reciever updates the array on their end. for those pixels that changed.

Is it possible to Compress the Data in some way internally construct 2 to use even lower bandwidth?

    Any ideas, could this work?

I'm curious to try it out.

  • Looks nice.. Interested to see how this turns out. I like the classic RPG feeling.

  • I've been working in game development for almsot 15 years in one way or another mostly as Artist/Designer, even worked on big titles like Battlefield: Bad Company during my time at Dice, but for being an indie game developer I'm still a beginner. Currently working on my frist game which I made from scratch in construct 2.

I guess it's partly a matter of skill, experience and success. I wouldn't expect to call myself a proper indie game developer until I had some success to be able to live from the profits. Even then..... A hobbyist could also have a success with a game made in the spare time, but that doesn't automaticly make him/her a proper indie developer unless he intend to continue on the path of creating games.

Another way of earning the title would probably be if you're already a known name in the industry and have been working with other studios in a leading role, then setting up your own studio, or get a job at a known studio.

Last but not least. There are some highly skilled people with some experience that can call them self indie developers even before releasing any game (But usually well in to production). Those people know how to market themselves, and can present a polished product, and already has tons of followers even before releasing the game. Those people created a hype around their product even before it was done.

Anyway ... Keep going at it. I think your best bet to becoming a "recognised" indie developer is either by showing up sales numbers, so keep working on it.

I've stumbled across some things i thought was limitations but I'm not ranting about it. I'm doing workarounds and learning new ways to deal with the problems. There's always a way. It takes a little effort and problem solving skills to develop games. Construct already has a lot af Behaviours to ease up the process when doing certain things, but I often find myself not using them to make my own custom Events/Plugins to better fit my needs.

It's definitely not a toy, but ....well It reminds me of Lego bricks.

Complaining about things you can't make in Construct is like complaining to Lego because they never produced a Brick in the exakt shape that you want. Use some skills, imagination, problem solving, research and try different approaches and you'll be amazed what you can do. Often I learn new ways to do things just by browsing the "How do I" part of the forum. People doing the same things in a lot of different ways, and often I'm amazed by all the creative ways to do things in construct.

I noticed you mentioned local storage. Well, there are lots of ways to store highscores. Find the way that fits best. If one way doesn't work ...try the other way.

  • I don't have an android otherwise i would help. Maybe you should have some more info about the game?

  • Thanks. Took a quick look at it yesterday and seems quite straight forward. Basically what i was looking for. Gonna dig deeper into it tonight!

  • I'm working on a multiplayer game, where people can choose a "Player name". How do I go about if i want to have a name check for taken names already? I suppose i have to store in some kind of database somewhere. I want to store highscores and stats of the players as well. What are my options and is there any good solid solutions or should i consider setting up a Database myself? Maybe some password login would be required too?

  • Looks nice! I like the art style!

  • I can't really see how anyone would benefit from this, other than people who want to milk dry a simple games. It will only flood the marketplace with cheap copies of the same games with different graphics. Do we really need more clones???

  • Depends how your game is designed. But some settings that can improve performance if to reduce/remove particles if you use any. Also to toggle webGl effects on off if you use any, those are things that would probably not impact the gameplay but makes the game prettier.

  • I chose construct, basically because I didn't want to "code", but as I'm working with constructs event sheet, I'm learing a lot of things. To answer your graphics style you can do pretty much what you want, it's all up to your artist, but realtime 3D graphics will be tricky but can be done with plugin as well. So far I didn't feel limited in construct, as the event sheet system is very flexible and there is a lot of ways to do things. You'll be amazed to see how fast you can actually make a working prototype.
