  • 10 years ago I started a project in Construct 2, a monster collection RPG set in a world of necromancers. I managed to put together a vertical slice with all the mechanics and features I wanted, and I was very proud. You can see it here...

However it was so horribly inefficient and bloated because of my lack of experience, any extra monsters, attacks, dialogue, quests, locations, dungeons, would have been a nightmare to start adding. If you were to start this kind of project from scratch in C3, how would you organize it from the start, what advice would you have for first steps to make things as simple as possible to add more?

    Thank you.

  • Yeah full screen (or Display Capture) works, but I would really like to just have that Window Capture. I guess the layout tab counts as a "child window".

  • So I am using OBS to live stream my game development.

I want to use "Window Capture" so that I am only streaming the Construct 2 window.

However when I do that, the middle layout and event sheet tabs are black.

Please let me know if there is a way to fix this, thank you!

  • Hello!

Does anyone use a Steam Controller to test their Gamepad functions? Does it work well?

I am asking because the Steam Controller is on sale right now so I'll pick one up if I know it works well with Construct 2. Thank you.

  • That is an interesting trend. I could certainly write about time-management in some interesting ways. But there is not yet much I can do for people who have a sense of entitlement or are not familiar with give-and-take. I will ponder it though.

In the mean time I wrote this piece about sharing work and how to do it with confidence and more effectiveness. Enjoy!

  • Good morning,

I have been using Construct 2 for three years and I am writing a blog about common game design themes I notice on game dev forums and groups. I really want this to have some value to people, so if you have time please let me know if they are any good, interesting, or have the potential to become articles. Or what you would change about them.

First post is about having a Vision for your project.

Video games in particular are notoriously long projects and it can be difficult to know when to deviate from your path or stick to it. Many developers consider the essence or vision of their project to be: what experience do I want the player to have?

Second post is about game design flow.

    Thank you for your time!

  • Hi there, so when I import an asset as a sprite, I can scale it down from 128x128 to 32x32 with no quality loss.

However, when I import an asset as a Tiled Background and scale it down, it loses quality, is there a way to avoid this?

In the properties tab, for Sprites the Size field means that actual size of the asset.

But for Tiled Backgrounds, the Size field means the "canvas size", I guess you could call it.

And altering the size in the image editor decreases the quality for both.

Do I just have to import all Tiled Backgrounds as Sprites instead an manually tile them if I want to scale them down?

    Thank you!

  • Ah wonderful, thank you.

  • Hi there!

I am attempting to have two different sprites-

    Sprite A and Sprite B

-on a certain command to both play the same animation file. For disc space I would like them to both draw from one animation file, rather than each have their own version of the animation file. Is this possible?

I understand that it is possible to have two copies of the same sprite to solve this, but for other reasons I would like to know if my proposed way would work too.

    Thank you!

  • Thank you.
