  • wow, great game here, such a beautiful job , but i want to ask , how about a loading time ? how long does it take to loaded the game, mate ? Do you use load layout by layout ?

    Thanks

The loading times are very fast - a few seconds per level. I use layout by layout loading.

I also preload all sound effects to avoid lag first time played. I want the game to feel just like a game you installed or played from a diskette.

  • The arcade needs an overhaul, but we're just too busy to do it at the moment. Hopefully we'll renovate it in future.

You can go fullscreen from an Arcade game btw - just use the Browser object's 'request fullscreen' which now also works in the Arcade.

OK - thanks. Just learned that plug-ins doesn't work either and my game is stuffed with them :D

  • It make sense to keep the global design of the website.

In that design, game canvas are supposed to be contained within the layout of the webpage.

If the canvas was wider than the actual available size, it could visually break the design.

The arcade is being worked on by Tom anyway, at some point a new layout and less limitations should arrive.

The limitation preventing "many good games away" from the arcade, in my opinion, is the fact that you can't use third part plugins/behaviors, rather than the size of the game itself.

Ok - my game is absolutely stuffed with plug-ins :D

  • Dude, this game is absolutely amazing! I didn't play that much Mario back in the day, but I'm familiar enough with it to say that this isn't a straight up copy - more of an inspiration. Great to see what can be done with C2 - it's something for many of us to aspire to :)

Just out of curiosity, how big is your capx now? Are there any issues with loading and stuff?

Thank you. My capx isn't that big - about 310 mb and only about 41 mb om Chrome. I think it's because almost everything in the game is made of 32x32 sprites. That doesn't take up much space. The game has just under 4000 events.

  • I would like to get my free trial on Scirra Arcade - but why is it limited to 800px width and why is there no fullscreen option?

I think these two issues are keeping many good games away from Scirra Arcade. The 800px max width especially - that doesn't make any sense to me at all and it excludes my own game.

  • If Mario saw that he would be jealous ... :-)

But you need a final touch , It is not ready ,

You need something unique in it , that doesn't make it a Mario clone

Well - It is a mario clone.

  • Thank you - that really means a lot to me.

I'm amazed that you made this project solo. It looks amazing throw back to the NES days. If I liked the 80's platformers more you would have my financial support. Though I will give my greenlight support for being in your exact shoes. Except i'm older :(

Part time employment and needing to support the family while being depressed.... I SO KNOW WHERE YOUR COMING FROM.

Good luck you have my best wishes. Also it's a pity there a lot of naysayers on greenlight :( seriously good luck.... why aren't there more people complain about FPS's :P

  • This comment makes it all worth it for me. Thank you very much - I have had so many negative comments about this game everywhere, so it's really a breath of fresh air for me.

People don't realize that it's impossible to make a solo game the same quality a 50 people production with millions of dollars on the budget.

This is just my hobby - even though I have had a little too much time to do it lately :)

you may not be an 'employed' game designer, but you are by no means, in any sense of the word...an amateur. i believe that sqiddster means that the resulting product that you have modestly produced, is of a professional level in every sense; graphics, sounds, level design, animation, interaction, and all around, laser-shark frikkin coolness.

may you game dev long, and prosper.

Awesome, some professional games coming out made in C2! Let us know how you fare on greenlight.

First of all - please help me on Steam Greenlight:

    8BitBoy on Greenlight

I think this could be one of the biggest games made with C2. It has about 12-16 hours of gameplay + lot of replay value. There is tons of exploration to do with more than 250 hidden locations. 56 massive levels spread out on five different themed worlds with 2 different settings each world. It also has 5 hard as nails boss fights. When you have finished all that - you are probably only half way through it.

It's inspired by several of the greatest platformers of the late eighties and early nineties and it has been mixed up with my own story about being unemployed.

I have invested about a years work on this + more - so I really hope you like it. I gotta warn you though - this is not an easy game, the difficulty is also old-school.

  • The bug is only present when executed as an app through the Chrome Web Store. All my testers can confirm this - and would like to show you.

I have a huge amount of time and money invested in this - so I would be most helpful to find the source of this problem.

And because there is no working auto update feature with C2 on Chrome Web Store - you cannot release a game with bugs, when you have no change to correct them.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • My game has totally steady performance when I try it from a server, from dropbox and directly from C2.

But when I upload the same game to Chrome Web Store - it has some kind of framerate drop every 4-15 seconds. Just a very short 0.5 second drop where the game stutters totally. It's extremely anoying.

The problem is the same on any computer I have tried.

Ashley - if you provide me with a email, I can send you links to both the Chrome Web Store upload and to the one on my homepage.

My game is going out on Wednesday, so I really hope we can resolve this bug. The bug must lie somewhere in the difference between the HTML5 export and the Chrome Web Store export. Because the HTML5 works perfect.
