  • sorry i meant to post this in the how do i forum.

  • Hi,

Has anyone created an isometric style game, ie a game with a similar aspect to magica, diablo and other games of that kind. I am about to start working with a couple of artists to make an isometric retro styled open world adventure game. And I hoped that there might be some other games i could look at to get tips on that type as i mostly see action, puzzle and platform games on the arcade. As the game will be using a pseudo 3d view point with 2d sprites and I would like to see the best ways of doing movement and interactions between characters and backgrounds.

  • Hey, not a bad game, but the death on one hit and restart is a big pain made me stop after the first couple as the attack system takes a little getting used to. But perhaps if you have some energy for life so two or three hits before death might be better or more checkpoints.

Anyway i got a solid 60fps during gameplay but a slightly lower fps on the initial game load up.

Overall I would say this is a good work in progress.

  • Hi, yes you are right of course it isnt really an ascii game... poetic license heh. I hope to have more for everyone to see soon.

Also the game is now in the arcade:

  • Glad you like the colour, it will be even better with the levels that I am designing, the enemy bullets spawn once when you destroy an enemy at that spot and then i think another bullet randomily spawns from the top as well.

But yes I amped up the difficulty because I only had one basic enemy type, as i build the levels i will add new enemy types to the endless game mode and reduce the amount spawning which will make it easier to play and see all parts. :)

  • Thank you for the comments, I will likely make shooting clicable to begin with and then upgrades as the game progresses will give you the ability to hold the mouse down.

2 out of 5 for an early alpha isnt bad, hopefully will have the opening level soon.

  • Hi all, i am currently building a shoot em up game similar in scope to the recently released Twisted shadow world.

In the game you control a spaceship which can be upgraded from a very simple design to a more advanced design with different ship options etc.

I am ideally looking for someone who likes ascii art and would like to help build the art work for the game, To help with building the levels and layouts of the game. And to work with me to help design some puzzle mechanics.

As indicated the game will be built useing ascii art.

Here is an example of the concept, my efforts have been geared towards making the explosions, weapon systems and the player controlled ships which can be seen in the demo. (right click to destroy the current ship type)

I can build the art myself, but sadly i am not adept at it. So would like someone to help build the game with me.

At this point it is a free to play project, but if the game gets larger I will consider releasing commercialy and would then happily pay or share profits. But sadly I cannot offer much at the moment for payment.

If anyone is interested let me know, pm or email:

  • Hi thanks for the feedback, I agree lol. I am currently building levels which will be large worlds to explore with enemies to shoot with behaviours within the game suitable to the areas they are in etc, plus simple puzzles to navigate etc.

  • Hey all,

Over the weekend I started working on a fun little side project I was building, its a shootemup bullet dodging game/puzzler.

At the moment all I have created is a basic survival mode, but I will also be building a large story game with levels to complete. Every image in the game is either ascii letters or made up of asci code... even the image on the menu.

I have added it to the arcade but it hasnt appeared yet. so in the meantime you can play it here:

    http://www.tilleydesign.co.uk/asciishooter/index.html

    Its quite simple,

    Arrows control movement

    Mouse direction for aiming

    Left click shoots

Be careful as a Right click when in game will detonate your current vessel. (included for testing purposes for a later game mechanic)

The survival mode gives you 5 ship types with different speeds and weapons, as you die you change ship type and weapon type.

I am now working on the first level for the story mode in the game.

  • hi not bad.

bug note: when i played single player, i could still partially control the computer player with the arrow keys.

  • hey

Not a bad starting point, music was a bit loud and jarring, but overall not bad.

Basicaly took about 20-30 seconds to load (im on 30mb line) but it was sunday peek time. Music took longer i started the first game and music took a few seconds before it started.

Destroyed all the asteroids and a new level didnt start and the game didnt end, it just sat there spawning the ocasional alien ship.

If mouse isnt going to aim, I think it might be better to use space or x or z to fire... less confusion that way... just a thought.

  • A little update today Version 0.02 now available:

    http://www.tilleydesign.co.uk/fluxation/index.html

    Changelog:

Added version number to main menu (make sure it says version 0.02 alpha, otherwise reload)

Fixed several bugs in the existing waves so they all work as supposed to.

    More updates coming soon.
