  • Hey there

I've got a platformer cooking here for the GameJolt Invention contest. What I can't figure out is why, when my main character is facing to the left, no animations will play. Could anyone have a look and see if they can see what's happened?

    Thanks

    Edit: By the way, the

    + System: Always (every tick)

    -> MC_Anim: Resume current animation

Was my attempt to fix this, but it didn't work, so ignore that.

  • Hey guys.

What would be the best way to print an array into a text object?

For instance, if I have an array where (1,1) is "Hello ", (2,1) is "my name is" and (3,1) is " John.", I'd get "Hello my name is John." in the text object.

Here is my crappy attempt, but it doesn't work at all...

  • Hey guys.

Just stretching out a sprite to make walls, an exercise that has worked perfectly previously. There seems to be strange artifacts that show up in the editor and in runtime which I can't figure out the origin of. I've checked, every pixel of the sprite is black, and yet:

Anyone know how to fix this?

  • Try Construct 3

  • Hurm. Its a great idea, but the resulting arrangement of 3D boxes can't really be called a spaceship. Personally I'd keep it 2D for this kind of thing, or don't use Construct. I can't see a 3D spaceship generator being very Construct friendly.

Bunch of graphics for a steam-punk RPG I'm working on, if I can ever manage to actually get good at programming...

  • Hey guys. I'm making an RPG right now, and that means lots of arrays. I had the idea to whip up a GUI array editor, so here's the alpha.

    Array Editor Alpha 0.1

    • Right double click to make a new value.
    • Right click and drag to draw lines between values, useful for notating relationships. Double click a line to destroy it. Colour select is down the bottom.
    • Bottom tab of a value drags, top tab destroys. Destroying a tab destroys the assosciated value.
    • Scroll wheel to zoom, arrow keys to scroll.
    • I can't get the file to export to a custom path, or through the common dialogue, so it will come out as Output.txt in the program's directory.

My biggest problem right now is loading and saving. Saving breaks zooming for some strange reason, and loading large arrays puts them in all the same spot and slows it down to a crawl.

Here's the .cap to anyone who is interested in this/thinks they know a solution to these problems.

  • Thanks Tricky, that's sort of what I was doing already but its not exactly optimal. I think I might go with a colour change rather than shadows for a day/night cycle.

Alrighty, new problem. I'm trying to make NPC crowd thingys to, on startup, move to a random node. This isn't working, and again I think its a picking problem. I just can't get my head around it. Thoughts?

  • Hmmm... Ok. So suppose I want to implement a day/night cycle. Anyone got a way to do this? In my latest cap I've set up shadows, but the problem is the light object emenates light from a point which appears to be on the ground, not several billion metres above the surface.

    So yes. Thoughts?

  • Cool. Thanks! I got it working now. I'm sure I'll be back in a few hours with some new problem...

  • So I feel bad making a new thread, so I might just aggregate all my questions into this one thread.

    Hello.

So this little thingy here: I'm trying to change the Z order of the character and the buildings so that the character appears in front when the Z value is greater and behind when it is less. It works for the first instance, but not the others, so I think this might be a picking problem.

Also, the cap here has it without families, but I've been trying to do it with families as well. With a family would be awesome cause it means I wouldn't have to have all types of building held within one sprite.

    Thanks

  • Yeah you should be able to simulate those ships without actually having them in your layout by using an array, and then just interpret them into the position of a sprite when you go into 'galactic' view.

  • Hey guys.

I've got a cap below where I'm trying to make two houses which you can enter. If you go into the one on the right and come back out, it puts you outside it, but if you go into the one on the left it goes back to the spawn, so I think I've done something wrong with the picking. Could anyone have a look? Is there a better way to do this?
