  • A couple of bugs:

    http://www.box.net/shared/v30d6hv4ku

(put the .cap in the same folder as the original demo .cap)

It seems that when you add a sprite to the layout, it's not that the sprite is rendering behind the GUI, but that the sprite isn't rendering at all. I resized the GUI so that you should be able to see the sprite, but it's not there.

Also, run the .cap and hold down the right arrow to move the (invisible) sprite. When the screen scrolls to follow the sprite, the GUI disappears. This doesn't happen when the GUI layer is set to 0% scroll rate.

And there's some minor visual bugs in the layout that you're probably already aware of. When you click anywhere in the object panel, in the layout, on a layer, or on a scrollbar, the animation on the GUI object jumps ahead. This also happens when hitting any key on the keyboard. And scrolling the layout causes the background image of the GUI to squish and stretch, both horizontally and vertically.

  • I never have random or long passwords. I keep it short so I can remember.

    Is your password "Azu?"

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Noticed something odd. When you add an effect to the CGUI object, or an effect to the layer that the CGUI object is on, it renders a black screen at runtime.

    EDIT:

Also, it seems that the GUI objects all render in front of everything else. I added a sprite, and the sprite was hidden by the GUI, even when I put the sprite on a layer above the GUI. I don't know if this is fixable, but this was one of the main complaints about the Windows control objects.

  • I teach people to do things wrong on purpose. It's all an elaborate hoax, the sole purpose of which is to feed on the tears of unsuspecting newcomers. I want all my garmonbozia.

Anyway, no there's nothing really wrong with making a platformer control object out of a separate sprite. In fact, at the time I started those tutorials it was pretty much the only way you could do it. Now that you can make a custom collision mask for your sprite you don't need to though.

  • Shoe polish for hire

  • Sorted. As you suggested.

I just added your latest InputSystem_0.95beta.zip.

Yep, same here. I thought I did have the latest version... oopsie

Anyway the .cap runs fine now. And it looks awesome so far

  • The .cap crashes here when I run it as well. And yeah, everything is unzipped properly. Are you sure you didn't mix up the runtime build? Ash does that all the time

    The .exe file works though.

  • This is awesome. Seeing as how the Windows control widgets are really finicky, Construct could definitely use something like this.

How skinable do you plan to make this? I noticed some rather complex looking GUI setups in the screenshots on the mygui page. Like this one here: http://info.wotgame.ru/files/screens/original/70.jpg

    Edit:

Hmm, I tried downloading the .zip twice and both times it said the file was corrupted

    Edit 2:

Never mind, for some reason it took four tries to actually download the whole file from sourceforge. I got it now.

  • Yeah, I just had a hell of a time with this actually. I switched back to Firefox after using Chrome for a while and I couldn't log in for like, ever. I finally got it sorted out though.

Also, I hit the "I forgot my password" thing twice and I still haven't received an email... just a heads up.

  • Thanks for all the upbeat support, everyone. I'm sure the developers appreciate it.

  • It's not a very closed beta if you're posting it on a public forum

Anyway, the art and music are pretty good. The game itself was a little too slow and repetitive for me though. And vague. What does screaming do? What's the motivation for the main character? What benefit does exploring a large space have when there is nothing to see but more platforms? What is the challenge?

Anyway, I kind of got... bored. I'm sorry. I realize it's supposed to be an art-game kind of game with a message and such, but maybe being a tiny little bit less vague about goals would help. And I know I'm probably missing the point to this but I think a game with a message can still be challenging and fun to play.

It looks really nice though, I wish you luck at IGF.

Oh, also it seems that a lot of your text boxes are cutting off the words and putting your periods at the beginnings of new lines and such:

This is happening all over the place for me. Using Win7x64. You might want to consider using the SpriteFont addon.
