  • Ludum Dare 38 judging was pushed back till Friday because more ratings were needed overall including on my game. I ended up throwing this game together with a few friends helping with the art and level design but I would love to show it off and maybe get some more ratings.

I would love to see other games made in Construct for LD38 so if you participated post your game and I will be sure to play, rate and leave some feedback!

  • The point is if you want major new features to be added, the business needs a stable income to be able to develop them.

I threw in a few major feature requests to illustrate the point. The fact I mentioned them is not necessarily a statement of our roadmap.

I appreciate the reply and understand the point but if your asking us for money because the roadmap to a better C3 requires it than it should be more clear what major features your looking to implement. I was really excited about the suggestion platform and the responses on there aren't encouraging. A few items already moved to declined with only the suggestion that it's not needed and better handled elsewhere and only 1 idea in the planned section.

I don't want to invest in C3 if the roadmap is to put all the future development into reaching more people by making the application more accessible and eventually adding 3D.

  • I have been excited for C3 since I heard about it and remained excited through all the features announcements thinking the changes are mostly kind of neat but not really things I plan on utilizing. I still plan to sub day 1 since I have loved C2 over the years and feel like you have earned my money but I am a little confused as to what the plans are post release as far as major feature changes.

I thought the idea was to generally make it the best 2D game engine but in a recently locked petition on the forums Ashley wrote this.

[quote:1gshnv34]Remember that if you're keen to see major new features like 3D, timelines, modularity or collaboration, we're very much limited by our resources, and it's difficult to make the jump to hiring new developers if we have a less stable income.

This concerns me because you have 3D which is 0 interest to me within Construct and a game changer for the engine. It also lists collaboration but your suggestion platform's 1st and 4th highest voted ideas are both listed as currently not planned and they are the basics for collaboration.

I love Construct and know you're under constant harassment over your decisions with C3 but I really want to stay a customer and your making it hard to justify. Your company's communication is giving off the impression your focusing on a successful business model rather than making a solid product that is worth the money over Construct 2.

I plan to buy C3 for at least the first year. I am a hobbyist and would love to see some return on my invested time and money but for now I am having way too much fun building games in Construct to consider myself too 'serious'. I have used Construct 2 for about 2.5 years now and in that time I have participated in about 15 game jams solo or with friends doing art/sound/music as well as making countless prototypes and tiny games.

One of the biggest selling points for me is being able to work on the game from a number of different devices and locations easily being browser based and syncing with dropbox. I have started teaching my 6 year old some construct basics on a tablet with this since the touch screen is much more intuitive to younger kids than mouse/keyboard. The current touch controls are a little awkward and I have issues accidentally touching the back button and losing lots of work but I am confident improvements will be made and I will adjust to the controls over time.

I am skeptical of C3 being worth the subscription fee each year but I feel like I have more than got my money's worth from C2 so I will happily sub day 1.

  • I have started doing a lot more quick prototyping and found myself more and more using the construct sprite editor to quickly throw together sprites. I would love to see a similar sound effect and/or simple music maker to be more of a all-in-one tool similar to pico8.

  • Here is my 4th Ludum Dare in a row and the 2nd one I threw together in a hurry using my sons artwork. It is made mostly for my son to enjoy seeing his drawings come to life and practice using a mouse. It was going to have more of an inside of the igloo with different things to do in the one room house but we got busy over the weekend and time ran out quickly. I haven't gotten to it yet but I look forward to checking out all the other games in this thread.

  • I created a game last week for a 9 day game jam called proc jam (https://bitmen.itch.io/specimen-mkultra) and it has some RTS like controls and we have been working on implementing controlling multiple characters. It is surprisingly easy and if you could definitely work your way up to dwarf fortress level of complex you will just need to be organized.

  • In Specimen: MKUltra you are a brain squid with psychic powers that brainwashes monsters so you can control them with your mind. You will run them into traps or pit them against each other while dodging traps yourself in these demented torture chambers created by sinister robots.

I made this game for procjam a 9 day game jam where you use some form procedural generation in your project. It was the first game I made with my two artist friends and was a nice break from having to use my own poorly drawn sprites. I was attempting to use a style similar to Derek Yu's Spelunky where the rooms are partially generated and it was planned to have a lot more content I am happy with how it turned out for a 9 day experiment and we may continue to develop the game adding all the features and content we wanted to include here.

Check it out here and let me know what you think

  • Out of thread: How do you collaborate with multiple peoples on projects?

If you are trying to have multiple people building the game within construct you can use tools like SVN to manage merging code together. Most of the time, when I am working on projects with other people, they do everything outside of construct like making art, animations, music, sound effects or coming up with level designs. Having a team of people for playtesting can be very helpful too.

  • 1.) My best guess is you need to add the Global Variable of Score and you may need to remove the space after the &

2.) You can load in any plain looking colored image for a background if you cannot find the exact image you are looking for

  • Rayman Legends is an awesome 2d platformer that has lots of collectibles and its done very well in my opinion. There were two main currencies with lums and teensies and the teensies were basically level gates but the lums had long term goals of gathering a ton to unlock new characters but also short term goals in each level to get higher trophies and scratch off cards to earn bonus levels, large bundles of lums or creatures that generate lums over time.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I threw together a math game prototype I had thought about making a while ago that might be useful. You could swap out the numbers for letters and then instead of "winning" with the correct number you can reset the text or something on the word you are trying to spell. This was a 15 min rush job so don't expect much but it could be a place to start.
